TSUTAYA Weekly Tankoubon Sales Ranking: January 17, 2022 to January 23, 2022

There are more new releases for the week between January 17 and January 23 compared to the week before with Kakkou no Iinazuke Volume 10 taking the lead among new releases to see it claiming the 2nd spot. Note that the volume will be having a full week of sales and as such, it should see a strong turnout compared to its past volumes. The series’ 4th volume saw 74,312 copies sold in its first 6 days, therefore, we can expect copies sold for its 10th volume to be at somewhere from 70,000 copies to above 80,000 copies sold. Its Manga sales performance did suffer a slowdown for Volume 7, but sales went up for the volume after. Kakkou no Iinazuke will receive an Anime adaptation in Spring this year by studios SynergySP and Shin-Ei Animation, and if you missed out on the promotional video, do check it out below! It is also digitally published with up to five volumes officially translated in English.

At Number 3 is another new release, and one that has been having a decent performance on Oricon’s sales charts. Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su makes its Volume 7 debut which it too will have a full 7 days of sales when charted on Oricon upcoming sales chart. Previously, copies sold for Volume 6 were at 47,364 copies in its first 5 days, which could have been a notch higher than Volume 5 which 5-day sales fetched 51,503 copies in 6 days. For the 7th volume, it is quite safe to assume that it would have somewhere between 50,000 copies to slightly more than 60,000 copies sold. The series is currently being digitally published in English by Kodansha with up to five volumes available.

Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. which recently had its Anime’s first season concluded is placed 4th for the week with the 24th volume at 6 days of sales. Sales performance has not been as encouraging as past volumes with a clear downtrend observable between Volumes 20 and 23. Volume 23 had 7 days of sales when charted on Oricon, but could only produce 56,579 copies sold compared to Volume 15’s 7-day sales of 74,496 copies. There is a high possibility that the end of Season 1’s broadcast could stimulate sales for the series, as such we can expect a much better outcome than Volume 23. If all goes well, it may see above 60,000 copies sold. Note that the Manga is also out officially in English with Volume 20 slated to release this coming August of 2022. Nakaba Suzuki, the author of Nanatsu no Taizai, sees the 5th volume of the sequel title at 5th for the week. Copies sold for past volumes were quite impressive considering it being new. Volume 1 failed to chart in its debut week on Oricon, but was charted back in April 2021 with copies sold at 46,094. Volume 2 noted 51,142 copies sold in its first 4 days in June the same year but were out of the chart the week after. Volume 3 experienced the same outcome with Volume 1, failing to chart in its debut week on Oricon, but was seen the week after at 36,246 copies sold. Volume 4 had a decent performance with copies sold as high as 45,627 copies in its first 5 days, and it was placed at the 25th spot the week after on Oricon sales chart at 20,920 copies, bringing its total 12-day sales to 66,547 copies. Based on its past performance, it is very likely that sales would hit close to 60,000 copies sold seeing Volume 5 will be having 7 days of sales. You can also find its first three volumes available officially in English.

Kanojo mo Kanojo Volume 9 is right after. Prior to the broadcast of its Anime, the series was last seen with the appearance of its 6th volume at 33,477 copies sold in its first 4 days. After that, it failed to place a spot on the Oricon sales chart for the 7th volume. Then, between October 11 and October 17, nearly a month after the end of its Anime’s broadcast, Volume 8 made its debut at 24,220 copies sold in its first 3 days. The very same volume was charted again at Number 27 at 22,898 copies sold the week after, bringing its 10-day sales to 47,118 copies. Volume 9 is expected to come out strong considering that it will have 7 days of sales on Oricon sales chart. It may breach the 30,000 copies sold mark, or reach close to 40,000 copies if all goes well. And of course, if you are keen on reading the Manga in English, Kodansha has published it digitally with up to Volume 7 available for grabs.

Number 8 is a series you may be familiar with. Seitokai Yakuindomo debuts with its final volume at 7 days of sales. The title was last seen with Volume 18 at 28,543 copies sold between August 19 to August 25 after missing out on the chart the week before. Then, Volume 19 was placed 23rd on Oricon’s sales chart between September 14 and September 20, 2020 at 27,497 copies sold in its first 4 days. It unfortunately could not see Volumes 20 and 21 on Oricon sales chart Top 30 due to weak sales. The title received Anime adaptations that spanned several seasons with the latest, a movie that premiered on January the 1st, 2021. So far there are no official English translations for the series, however you can catch some of its Japanese chapters available for free right here. So, do check it out!

Jump over to Number 11 is Lv2 kara Cheat datta Motoyuusha Kouho no Mattari Isekai Life Volume 6. It was last seen with Volume 2 at 36,347 copies sold in its first 2 days. A spot below is Be Blues! Ao ni Nare’s 46th volume, and its last appearance was for Volume 45 which had 29,233 copies sold in its first week. The final new release for the week belongs to Rumiko Takahashi’s Mao with its 11th volume at the 15th place. If you have enjoyed the author’s past works such as InuYasha, Ranma ½, Maison Ikkoku etc., be sure to give this new work of hers a try! Its 10th volume had a decent turnout of 32,049 copies sold in its first week. There are also five of its first volumes available officially in English published by Viz Media.
