Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: November 15, 2021 ~ November 21, 2021

The lack of strong competitors for the week should have seen Kingdom Volume 63 achieving a slightly better outcome for its copies sold, but unfortunately it experienced another downtrend to record perhaps its worst debut since Volume 55. The 63rd volume amassed 348,343 copies in its first 3 days, down 0.43% debut-to-debut. Though we may see a potential rebound in sales the following week given its short days of sales.

It is thanks to the wonderful folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! Plus, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series). For those of you who are more comfortable with Google charts, I have left links to their respective charts all the way at the bottom.

Sousou no Frieren Volume 6 seems to have a rather consistent performance with its last volume. The 6th volume high number of copies sold is thanks to its longer 4 days of sales where Volume 5 had 3 days of sales when charted at 177,334 copies sold. Had the 5th volume maintained sales at 50,000 copies sold, it could have easily surpassed the 6th volume on day 4. Nevertheless, Volume 6 would have still overtaken sales of Volume 5 in terms of revenue. Together with sales of its Special Edition (No. 20), copies sold are at a strong 198,220 which should see its revenue at 114,165,120 yen (≈993,241 USD).

Spy x Family enters its 3rd week with cumulative sales reaching 651,464 copies as of its 18th day, much lower than sales of Volume 7 which on its 17th day reported 795,689 copies. Volume 8’s performance is also slightly less than sales of Volume 5 in which its 17-day sales amounted to 656,878 copies sold. Before jumping into conclusion of its potential downtrend, let’s observe further the outcome of its future volumes.

Kinou Nani Tabeta? Volume 19’s cumulative sales are at 123,027 copies as of its 10th day, 14.24% fewer than sales of Volume 18. The title has been experiencing a downtrend in sales performance since Volume 16 which had 149,429 copies sold in its first 7 days.

Sales of “Oshi no Ko” remain stable so far. The 6th volume reported 61,230 copies sold in its first 3 days, 13.93% higher than Volume 3 which too had 3 days of sales when charted. Volumes 4 and 5 had bigger copies sold due to their longer 5 days of sales. The title may see future copies sold to stay relatively the same amount if its condition remains the same.

As for Kakkou no Iinazuke, copies sold do seem a little lower when compared to previous volumes, in particular Volumes 5 to 8 which all had 3 days of sales at the time when they were charted. Volume 9 places 6th for the week at 61,136 copies sold in its first 5 days. Volumes 5 and 6 on the other hand, managed to see around 57,000 copies sold in their first 3 days.

At Number 8 is Major 2nd‘s 24th volume. The title is perhaps the most apparent in terms of sales decline. Note that all Volumes 22 to 24 have the same number of days of sales, which is 4 days. Volume 24 recorded its worst thus far amongst the three volumes at 49,917 copies sold, a drop of 8.59% debut-to-debut with average per day falling below 13,000 copies. If the series continues to exhibit a similar performance with its future volumes, it may not bode well for the title.

Head over to Number 10 and you will find Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su Volume 6 at 47,364 copies. Sales remain relatively consistent for the series. Volumes 4 and 5 had 4 and 6 days of sales respectively, hence the slightly lower copies sold for Volume 4 and higher copies sold for Volume 5.

Bakemonogatari Volume 15 is right after at 45,307 copies sold, but this could perhaps be its best considering its Special Edition is out as well, however could not place on the Top 30. When put together, copies sold are above 50,000 for the title’s 15th volume.
