Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: January 10, 2022 ~ January 16, 2022

A very slow week for sales of Manga volumes in Japan with only four new releases on the Top 30 list. Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san Volume 17 debuts with a weaker turnout compared to its past volumes that had 5 days of sales. The 50,666 copies it made for the week is much less than Volumes 4 and 14, both had sales above 70,000 copies within the same period of sales. Copies sold were quite high for its volumes until Volume 14, ever since, it seems to be struggling to achieve the same performance it had with previous volumes. You can take a look at Volumes 15 and 16 as well which 3-day sales were at 40,000 copies each, but Volumes 5 and 8 had the same number of days with higher copies sold of above 60,000 copies. The Anime adaptation of the series currently has its 3rd season being broadcasted this season with studio Shin-ei Animation at the helm of the project.

It is thanks to the wonderful folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! In addition, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series). If Google charts are what you prefer, you can find their respective links to the charts at the bottom of the post.

Sitting at the edge of the Top 10 list would be Takuto Kashiki’s 10th volume of Hakumei to Mikochi with relatively very good sales in just 2 days. The 35,190 copies sold could have slightly surpassed sales of its 9th volume had it gone a day later. Hakumei to Mikochi was animated as a 12-episode Anime series by studio Lerche in 2018, and the very same year, it received a Special episode titled “Neji to Bed to Irori to Bakuchi”. The series also has up to nine volumes officially translated into English by Yen Press.

As for other past titles on the list, Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 18 remains steadfast at its 1st spot as it goes into its 4th week. Its lifetime sales now (excluding the Special Edition) is at 1,544,208 copies sold. Number 5’s Dr. Stone slips hard to Number 5 with copies sold down by as much as 70.20% with its 13-day sales now hitting 171,255 copies. And of course, as mentioned before in the TSUTAYA’s weekly Manga sales chart, Mystery to Iu nakare is on fire thanks to the release of its live-action drama adaptation of the same name. The 10th volume has risen up all the way to clinch the 7th spot at 37,145 copies sold and some of its other volumes are placed on the bottom 11 to 30.
