Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: September 26 – October 2, 2022

Sales for most consoles are down for the week between September 26 and October 2 with the PlayStation 5 vanilla edition being the worst hit as units sold fell by 42.76% to 15,101 copies. Its Digital Edition however had sales 5.32% lower than the week before to settle for 2,975 units. Together, that would be 18,076 units sold, 38.77% lower than previous week’s 29,522 units. Switch consoles are weak across the board when compared to last week as total units sold slipped 18.70% to 70,385 units with Lite falling the hardest among the three. Xbox Series X marked a significant rise to 3,401 units from the 544 units sold it had the prior week, but its Series S were closed at 9,663 units, 16.95% less. Thanks to Series X, its total units sold went up by 7.27% to 13,064 units. PlayStation 4 saw 14 units sold, up by 40% while New 2DS LL’s sales improved by 34.15% to 41 units.

The software sales chart presents a number of new releases with the same titles occupying several spots with their different editions. First up is The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki II – Crimson Sin, the twelfth instalment of the main Trails series and the sequel to the September 2021 release, The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki. The latest title sold a total of 50,707 copies in its first 4 days with its PlayStation 4 edition leading the charge at Number 2. Note that the game as of the time of writing is a PlayStation exclusive title. Crimson Sin’s performance is also slightly better by 1.18% when compared to its prequel which made its debut at 50,114 copies sold in its first 4 days last year. This time, the game will take place in the year S.1209 with the return of Van Arkride in search of the culprit who slaughtered a special op squad in the capital city of Edith (Source: Wikia). Valkyrie Elysium’s PlayStation 4 edition is 3^rd on the list with 23,295 copies sold in its first 4 days while its PlayStation 5 edition is 5^th at 17,067 copies, putting its total sales at 40,362 copies. Note that the game is also available on PC. The game serves as the fifth instalment of the Valkyrie series and centres around a new Valkyrie, Nora who is tasked by Odin to stop the completion of Ragnarok (Source: Wikia). Then, we have FIFA 23 at Number 4 at 21,721 copies sold for its PlayStation 4 edition, and if you skip down to Number 8, the Switch edition makes its presence at 11,783 copies. Together, that would be 33,504 copies sold in its first 3 days. The game is the 30^th instalment in the FIFA series by Electronic Arts (Source: Wikia).
