The financial results for Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings Corporation revealed some updates as to the performances of ABC Animation and SILVER LINK., both are wholly owned subsidiaries of the group. According to the report, ABC Animation has recorded its best sales performance to date at 1,839 million yen (≈13.74 million USD), up by 20.17% year-on-year thanks to the group heavily investing in late night shows such as Kaijin Kaihatsu-bu no Kuroitsu-san. Despite record sales, its operating profit for the fiscal year retreated by 32.96% to 262 million yen (≈1.96 million USD) amid a challenging business environment during the period brought about by the pandemic. It noted that its Pretty Cure series division was among the most badly affected. The group is also expecting ABC Animation to record better sales for the fiscal year 2023.
For the same fiscal year, note that ABC Animation was not directly involved in the production of the Anime itself, however, it was mostly involved via production committee. Of the twelve titles it produced for the fiscal year, two of them were directly linked to SILVER LINK. which would be for the Meikyuu Black Company and Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! series. The two titles had an episode count of 32 when the fiscal year ended. The remaining series or episodes it was involved in have ended their broadcasts with the exception of Delicious Party♡Precure which is still ongoing.
As for SILVER LINK., its net sales soared to 2,179 million yen (≈16.29 million USD), but its operating profit remained at a very low 1 million yen (≈7,477 USD). Note that the studio was only brought in as a wholly owned subsidiary of the group in the latter half of the fiscal year 2021, hence its full performance result for the fiscal year is unknown. Nevertheless, in the latter half of the aforementioned fiscal year, the studio recorded a loss of 35 million yen (≈261.80 thousand USD), as such this is quite a positive outcome. Part of the reason for its low operating profit, the group mentioned, was due to the lower number of works ordered through the studio. Nevertheless, according to Kazuhiko Ogura, the group’s managing executive officer highlighted that they foresee SILVER LINK. to make an even better return in the next two to three years as the group is increasing the number of orders of Animation works for the studio to produce.
During the fiscal year, the studio was involved directly with the production of seven works, most notably, Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! which has the greatest number of episodes. It currently has no ongoing titles. Within the fiscal year of 2023, the studio already has three new titles in its hands with Shijou Saikyou no Daimaou, Murabito A ni Tensei suru already being broadcasted as we speak while Saikin Yatotta Maid ga Ayashii and Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru are slated to arrive later in the Summer Season.
In total, both ABC Animation and SILVER LINK. reported a total of 4,018 million yen (≈30.04 million USD) in sales, and if you head over to page 27 of the group’s presentation material, you will notice that its Anime content business actually made 5,000 million yen (≈37.39 million USD) in sales for the period. This makes the proceeds from SILVER LINK. and ABC Animation to account for 43.6% and 36.8% of the groups’ entire Anime business while together, its Anime business alone takes up 33% of its content business.
