TSUTAYA Weekly Tankoubon Sales Ranking: March 28, 2022 to April 3, 2022

One Piece Volume 102 storms the TSUTAYA’s chart for the week between March 28 and April 3, placing 1st despite its official release being the day after. And it is not just the pre-release of One Piece that has greeted the chart with welcoming arms, head six spots under and you will Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 19 at Number 7 with its Special Edition, also slated for release on April the 4th. Seems like the week after would be a fierce competition between the two Shueisha titles in their first 7 days.

As for actual new releases, there are not that many with only four titles having breached the chart. First up would be Chi.: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite, which ranked 10th on the Next Manga Awards 2021 for the print category and a slew of others including 2nd at the Manga Taisho Award 2021 and 2nd at Kono Manga ga Sugoi 2022. Volume 7 makes its debut at 5 days of sales, and if all goes well, it should sell around 30,000 copies. Prior to this, its 6th volume was charted at 10th place back in December 2021 with 38,630 copies sold in the span of 6 days. The story revolves around a child prodigy, Rafal who one day stumbled upon a mysterious man and seeks to uncover the “truth” about the world. You can check out its first chapter in Japanese available for free through Big Comic Spirits right here.

All of the data you find below is all thanks to TSUTAYA, one of Japan’s largest bookstores chain which has around 1,200 stores in its local market. You can check out their website here and show them lots of love! Plus, for the week’s chart, you can find it through the link right here. If Google charts are what you are more comfortable with, feel free to visit the respective chart via the link right at the bottom of the post.

A spot below is a title that has been gaining traction in its local market. Kujou no Taizai is 6th for the week with its 5th volume at 5 days of sales. The title was previously seen with its 3rd volume selling 32,262 copies in the first week between August 30 and September 5, 2021. Volume 4 then made further improvement to the copies sold at 41,158 copies in the first 6 days, and I expect Volume 5 to see a turnout of around 35,000 copies sold and above if all goes well. First serialized in October 2020 through Big Comic Spirits, the title is about a lawyer, Taiza Kujou who would defend anyone even if he or she is the worst sort of person on Earth. Like Chi.: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite, you can check out its first chapter for free right here in Japanese.

Then, head all the way to Number 14 and you will find “Shuufuku” Skill ga Bannou Cheat-ka shita node, Bukiya demo Hirakouka to Omoimasu, the Manga adaptation of the Light Novel of the same name with its 4th volume in the first 6 days. Note that Seven Seas Entertainment is set to release the first volume of the Manga in North America this coming August. In the meantime, you can check out several of its chapters via Pixiv Comic right here in Japanese.

Finally, at Number 19 is Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen with its 12th volume at 3 days of sales. The series has not been seeing positive turnouts for its past volumes as debut sales continue to plummet, for instance Volume 7 and Volume 9, both in their first 6 days sold 98,089 copies and 77,620 copies, then Volume 8 and Volume 11 at 74,329 copies and 60,337 copies sold respectively in their first 5 days. The 3-day sales of Volume 12 will certainly see a much lower turnout this time and somewhere between 35,000 copies and 45,000 copies is highly plausible. The series was also adapted into Anime by Madhouse in 2018 and serves as the sequel to the 1996 Manga, Cardcaptor Sakura. You can also check out its first chapter right here in Japanese, and a video published via Clamp’s official channel to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary down below.
