TSUTAYA’s Top 20 list for the week between July 11 to July 17 sees a dominant Kodansha as the publisher takes ten out of the available twenty spots with Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken climbing two spots to clinch the first place. Following tightly behind is Mix which makes its debut with its 19th volume in its first 6 days and is expected to have sold around 130,000 copies sold for the week. In the graph below, the volume that is the closest in terms of days of sales would be Volume 16 that sold 127,416 copies in its first 5 days. The work by Mitsuru Adachi (Cross Game, Touch) is serialized in the Gessan magazine by Shogakukan with more information about it can be found here via its official webpage. You can also read its first chapter for free in Japanese right here. The series is also said to have 8 million copies in print as of April 2019. You can also watch a promotional video of its 18th volume if you missed out on it below, uploaded in December last year.
Next at Number 5 is Chihayafuru Volume 49 in its first 5 days, which should put its potential sales performance at approximately 100,000 copies sold based on the performance of its 44th volume. Note that overall, the performance of the Manga has not been that great since Volume 33, having been on a consistent decline for nearly each subsequent volume. That said, it did record a jump in copies sold for Volume 48, which bounces back by 13.13% over Volume 47, both in their first 4 days. If its latest volume does not record a growth this time, I expect it to do so for Volume 50 considering the volume will be its final. The Manga’s final chapter is set to come out this coming August the 1st (Source: ANN). The work by Yuki Suetsugu has been serialized by Kodansha since December of 2007 via its Be-Love magazine of which more information about the work can be obtained through its official page right here. You can also check out its Manga chapters that are up for free for some right here in Japanese. The series is also blessed with three seasons worth of Anime adaptations that were produced by Madhouse, plus a live-action adaptation which starred: Suzu Hirose, Shuhei Nomura and Mackenyu. So far, as for its Anime we have not heard of any potential sequel. As of July 1st, the Manga has surpassed 27 million copies in circulation (Source: Minkei).
Blue Lock Volume 20 is 6th on the list in its first 3 days, which should allow the volume to reach 60,000 copies sold if all goes well. The last time the series made appearances at 3 days of sales were for Volumes 16 and 17 where both sold 48,181 copies and 60,081 copies, respectively. Serialized in Kodansha’s weekly Shounen Magazine, the series has passed 10 million copies in circulation as of July 15 this year according to a post via its official Twitter account. You can read some of its chapters that are available for free right here in Japanese. The series is also slated to receive an Anime adaptation that will broadcast beginning this Fall Season and if you missed out on its latest promotional video, do watch it below.
Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su is certainly one title to keep a close eye on this week. The series makes its debut with Volume 9 at Number 9 for the week in its first 3 days. This should put its potential performance to somewhat around the same as its previous volume, as such you can expect around 30,000 copies sold. However, seeing that the series will be receiving an Anime adaptation by studio C2C in 2023, it may see a small bump in sales. Speaking of its Anime, if you missed out on its promotional video, do check it out below! The work by Katarina and Ryousuke Fuji is serialized in the Weekly Shounen Magazine by Kodansha with more information about it can be found on its official webpage here. In addition, you can read some of its Manga chapters for free right here in Japanese. As of July 7, the Manga is said to have passed 2.5 million copies in circulation (Source: Famitsu).
All of the data you find below is all thanks to TSUTAYA, one of Japan’s largest bookstores chain which has around 1,200 stores in its local market. You can check out their website here and show them lots of love! Plus, for the week’s chart, you can find it through the link right here. If Google charts are what you are more comfortable with, feel free to visit the respective chart via the link right at the bottom of the post.
Right down below at Number 10 is the 13th volume of Kakkou no Iinazuke at 3 days of sales, which if based on its past volumes with the same number of days of sales — Volumes 5 to 8 — should allow the volume to hit at least 50,000 copies sold. The Manga is worked on by Miki Yoshikawa whom you may have heard of as she previously worked on the Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo series. Serializing via the Weekly Shounen Magazine by Kodansha, some of its chapters can be read for free right here in Japanese. The work is currently having its Anime adaptation being broadcasted, produced by studios SynergySP and Shin-Ei Animation.
Next is Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. Volume 26 at Number 12 in its first 3 days. As for the Manga’s performance, copies sold have not been as strong as before, including a drop of 15.36% was observed between the 3-day sales of Volumes 14 and 18. Having its Anime’s second season already ended, it is quite possible that sale would go up, however it did not actually record any improvement in sales after the first Anime season ended its broadcast. As such, do expect a similar turnout as to Volume 18. The Manga has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Shounen Sunday since May 2016 with more information about it can be found right here via its official page. You can also read some of its chapters for free in Japanese here. According to its live-action DVD description, the series has now surpassed 5 million copies in circulation.
Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san is a title that you could be familiar with considering it had an Anime adaptation which aired between February 2021 and January this year. It sits comfortably at Number 14 with its 20th volume at 6 days of sales. The series has appeared before on Oricon Top 30 charts on two occasions since the Blog started tracking. Volume 16 made the breach back between October 11 and October 17 last year to see 26,752 copies sold in its first 6 days whereas Volume 17 was listed on the chart for the week between February 7 and February 13 at 24,494 copies sold in its first 4 days. Therefore, you can expect Volume 19 to produce a similar result as to Volume 16. The Shogakukan title is serialized in the Shounen Sunday magazine where more information about it can be found here. You can also read its first three chapters that are currently up for free in Japanese right here.
Then, at Number 15 you will find Kanojo, Okarishimasu Volume 27 making its debut at 3 days of sales. It has had several volumes that debuted with the same number of days such as Volumes 11, 20, 23 and 24. The 3-day sales performance peaked for Volume 20 at 50,566 copies sold, however, the others could not seem to push out a similar turnout, particularly Volumes 23 and 24. Nevertheless, an improvement was recorded between those two volumes. Copies sold should be able to achieve around 35,000 copies or more if all goes well. The Manga by Reiji Miyajima has been ongoing since July 2017, serialized in the Weekly Shounen Magazine by Kodansha of which some of its chapters can be read for free right here in Japanese. The work was also adapted into Anime by TMS Entertainment which aired between July and September of 2020. Its sequel is currently being broadcasted this season and will end after the 12th episode. As of June, the Manga has surpassed 10 million copies in circulation (Source: Oricon).
As for the rest of the new releases, we have Nichijou Lock making its maiden entry onto the chart with its 3rd volume at Number 16. Number 18 and 19 are occupied by the 12th volume of Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest and Hajime no Ippo Volume 134. As for Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, it has been awhile since it last featured on the charts and as for Hajime no Ippo, it should be able to see roughly 30,000 copies sold for its latest volume. Without further ado, the full list is as follows:
