TSUTAYA Weekly Tankoubon Sales Ranking: January 3, 2022 to January 9, 2022

The week before saw only one new release with Chi.: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite Volume 6 placing 19th, and at the same time it witnessed the return of Jujutsu Kaisen volumes on the chart. This time, we get to see a slew of new releases making onto the chart as Jujutsu Kaisen slows down with Dr. Stone’s 24th volume trailing at Number 2. Sales performance for the series have been steady thus far with copies sold maintaining its above 100,000 copies sold for the past three volumes. That said, its 20th volume was not too shabby as well, seeing 81,466 copies in just 3 days. Volume 21 served as an upgrade over Volume 22 as its 3-day sales were 23.73% higher than the previous. On December 19, 2021, the series was announced to receive a sequel Anime Special episode this year before greeting fans and viewers alike with its 3rd Anime season sometime in 2023. The title began serialization in March of 2017 via Shuiesha’s Shounen Jump Weekly magazine. According to its 24th volume, it now has 11,000,000 copies in circulation.

Right after is Black Clover’s 31st volume, a series that has been struggling as of late. Its 7-day sales for Volume 30 did go over 100,000 copies sold, however its performance is still not as good as Volume 27’s 131,755 copies sold within the same period. 3-day sales of Volumes 28 and 29 were also lower than Volumes 22 to 26, all of which had the same number of days except Volume 23 at 2 days of sales.  Its 6-day sales should be able to see it reach at least around 100,000 copies, below that may not be a good sign for the title.

All of the data you find below is all thanks to TSUTAYA, one of Japan’s largest bookstores chain which has around 1,200 stores in its local market. You can check out their website here and show them lots of love! Plus, for the week’s chart, you can find it through the link right here. If Google charts are what you are more comfortable with, feel free to visit their respective charts via the link right at the bottom of the page.

Then, there is Ao no Hako Volume 3 at Number 4, a title that has been gaining popularity in Japan having reached 350,000 copies in circulation as of its 2nd volume. The Manga last made its appearance for Volume 2 back between October 4 to October 10, 2021, of which 74,740 copies were sold in 7 days. The title started its publication in April, 2021 via Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump magazine and is also available for read in English through Manga Plus right here. It was also placed 8th under the Print Manga Category for the Next Manga Awards 2021. So be sure to check it out!

At Number 5 is the 16th volume of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The series experienced perhaps one of its worst performances with Volume 14 which 3-day sales were at a low 45,599 copies sold back in April 2021. However, it saw a small respite in copies sold when Volume 15 sold 50,631 copies in 3 days. This is still less than the 3-day sales achieved by Volume 9 which were at 65,934 copies sold. Volume 12 had the same number of days of sales, but copies sold were also under 60,000 copies. Its 6-day sales are expected to churn out around 70,000 copies sold or more if all goes well.

MF Ghost’s 13th volume places 7th for the week and should see stronger copies sold hopefully due to the announcement of its Anime adaptation set to commence in 2023. In case you missed the teaser video, do check it out below! Copies sold were still great for Volume 12 which 7-day sales were at 77,811 copies, but this is not as great as Volume 7’s 90,058 copies within the same number of days. Nevertheless, copies sold were quite high for Volume 11 compared to Volume 8 which had the same number of days of sales while Volume 10’s 5-day sales were at a strong 72,417 copies. Volume 13 will have only 4 days of sales and hence should see between 55,000 copies to 65,000 copies if sales remain as usual. If a boost does occur, it may see close to 70,000 copies or somewhere around that number.

At Number 8 would be Kinnikuman Volume 77. It has made consistent appearances since Volume 69 on the Top 30 sales chart, however performances have not been so encouraging lately. Note that its 3-day sales for Volumes 74 and 75 were much lower than Volume 69’s 50,068 copies, and Volume 76 which had a full week of sales could only produce 64,467 copies, nearly 10% less than Volume 73’s 71,583 copies which had the same number of days of sales. You can expect its 6-day sales for Volume 77 to be roughly 50,000 copies sold and above.

Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi Volume 4 can be found placing 12th on the list. The series has been seeing positive results with its 1st volume at 32,073 copies within its first 3 days and Volume 2 were at 53,483 copies in 5 days. Volume 3 was also featured in the Top 10 back between November 1 to November 7 with 41,251 copies sold in just 4 days. In addition to that, the 3rd volume was also ranked 28th the week after at 21,920 copies. Its 6-day sales for Volume 4 should see copies sold hitting 60,000 copies if the wind blows its way, but if it does not, it is very plausible that it will produce at least above 50,000 copies sold. It also placed 6th for the Next Manga Awards 2021 under the Print Manga Category, two spots above Ao no Hako. Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi, like Ao no Hako, is a series that started its serialization in 2021 through Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump magazine. And like the other mentioned series, it too can be officially accessed for free in English via Manga Plus, so do check it out right here!

As for Number 13th Shuumatsu no Harem Volume 14, we may see improvement in copies sold considering its ongoing broadcast of its Anime adaptation. This should provide a boost to its volumes seeing their performances were quite sluggish with Volumes 10 and 13 failing to place a spot on the Top 30 charts. Volumes 11 and 12 were charted at 61,033 copies and 56,030 copies sold in 5 days and 6 days respectively while Volume 9 were featured back in 2019 at 48,098 copies in its first 3 days. Its 6-day sales should see between 50,000 copies to 60,000 copies sold. If all goes well, it may go over 60,000 copies.

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun is 14th with its 25th volume, however you can expect it at a higher rank on the upcoming Oricon sales chart. The title saw perhaps its best 7-day sales ever when Volume 24 noted 89,998 copies sold, 9.17% more than Volume 20 and 23.60% higher than Volume 17. 3-day sales would put its potential figure near Volume 23, as such we may see between 50,000 copies to 60,000 copies sold. On September 11, 2021, the series was announced to receive a 3rd Anime season.

And of course we should not miss Kimetsu Gakuen debut volume at Number 15! The title is published in Saikyou Jump’s magazine of which its 1st chapter is available for free right here in Japanese. Then, there is Ayakashi Triangle Volume 7 by Kentarou Yabuki, a Mangaka that you may be familiar with. He had worked on To-LOVE-Ru and a plethora of other titles. The series were not very consistent having failed to place for Volumes 2 and 5, but have successfully done so with others on the Oricon Top 30 chart. On December 19, 2021, it was announced that the title is to receive an Anime adaptation, however its broadcasting date is still unknown. In the meantime, you can read its chapters via Manga Plus for free right here in English! According to its volume’s page, the title now has 1 million copies in printed circulation.

Last but not least, Sakamoto Days Volume 5 is 18th and is definitely worth picking up. It last made its appearance with the 4th volume back in November 2021 with 25,357 copies sold in 4 days. Like Ao no Hako and Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi, the series was ranked 9th on the Next Manga Awards 2021, and it can be accessed for free via Manga Plus in English. Serialization began for the series back in 2020 via Weekly Shounen Jump magazine by author Yuuto Suzuki.
