TSUTAYA Weekly Tankoubon Sales Ranking: January 10, 2022 to January 16, 2022

There is not much to say about new releases for the week between January 10 and January 16 other than the two Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san related titles which sees its main storyline’s 17th volume placing 4th for the week while the other, Karakai Jouzu no (Moto) Takagi-san is found at Number 16 with its 14th volume. As for its sales performance, copies sold have not been as great as before with a clear downtrend observable from Volume 10 onward.  A slight recovery is experienced between Volumes 15 and 16 where 3-day sales for the latter rose by 4.51% to 42,450 copies. This is however nowhere near the 3-day sales posted by Volumes 5 and 8, both saw 63,277 copies and 75,115 copies sold. The series inspired two TV Anime seasons with the third season currently airing as we speak. If you missed out on the trailer for the third season, do check it out below! Therefore, we may see some slight boost to copies sold for its 17th volume if all goes well. The Manga has up to 13 volumes available in English with the 14th volume slated for release in March this year.

Karakai Jouzu no (Moto) Takagi-san on the other hand, has had irregular appearances on Oricon sales charts. Volumes 6 and 7 had rather promising sales in 2019 of which the two sold 61,315 copies and 56,134 copies sold respectively in their first 4 days and 6 days. However, Volume 8 failed to do the same amid fierce competition from titles such as Kimetsu no Yaiba. Volume 9 was featured on Oricon’s chart for the week between August 10 and August 16 of which it had 50,015 copies sold in 5 days. Then, Volumes 10 and 11 were jettisoned out of the charts (Top 30) in the respective weeks before the appearance of Volume 12 at 28,280 copies sold in 3 days. Unlike the main series, it does not possess an official English translation thus far. But, the ongoing TV Anime adaptation may see improvement for its 14th volume.

The rest on the list are past titles, and with the slow down of previous week’s new releases, Jujutsu Kaisen is making a comeback. As such, expect strong sales for the series across the board in the coming Oricon Manga sales chart. Another interesting point to note would be the reemergence of Number 6’s Mystery to Iu nakare Volume 10 which was initially released back in December 10, 2021. The only explanation for this sudden rise is the live adaptation of the title which started its broadcast via Fuji TV January the 10th this year.
