The week between February 28 and March 6 is flooded with new releases led by Kaijuu 8-gou’s 6th volume. The volume will have the same number of days as Volumes 4 and 5, as such we should see around 300,000 copies and above sold in its first 3 days. Note that copies sold were on a consistent uptrend until the debut release of Volume 4, then they were down for Volume 5 by 9.16% to 301,943 copies. The possibility of Volume 6 observing a slow down is there, but very unlikely since older releases from titles such as Kimetsu no Yaiba, Jujutsu Kaisen, Tokyo Revengers etc are not as impactful as before.
Then, we have Ao Ashi Volume 27 at Number 2. Copies sold were doing quite well prior to Volume 25 where 3-day sales for Volumes 22 to 24 were above or near 60,000 copies. That has somewhat dropped for Volume 26 when its 3-day sales slipped to 47,474 copies sold. The series is also set to receive its Anime adaptation commencing soon in April. In the meantime, you can check out its promotional video down below.
All of the data you find below is all thanks to TSUTAYA, one of Japan’s largest bookstores chain which has around 1,200 stores in its local market. Number 5 places Dr. Stone’s 25th volume, which is its second last volume as on March the 7th, the Manga finally ended its five-year serialization in the 14th issue of Weekly Shounen Jump. Volume 26, which would be its last, is slated for release in July this year. The series was adapted into Anime spanning two seasons with a follow up planned for airing in 2023. Its Manga performance has been great with noticeable impact from its Anime adaptation clearly seen from Volume 12 onward. As Volume 25 will have only 3 days of sales, copies sold may not be as many as Volume 24. If all goes well, it should see closer or slightly above 100,000 copies sold.
Blue Giant Explorer Volume 5 is a spot below at Number 6. Previously, the title saw 68,269 copies sold for its 4th volume in its first 10 days. Blue Giant Explorer is the second sequel title of Blue Giant, authored by Shinichi Ishizuka which first began serialization via Big Comic magazine back in May 2013. Immediately after, you will find Kidou Senshi Gundam Thunderbolt Volume 19. Unfortunately, its appearance on the Oricon sales charts were not so frequent, having last seen on the Top 30 in September 2020 for its 16h volume at 44,126 copies sold in 5 days. The title was adapted into eight episodes ONA between December 2015 and July 2017 by studio Sunrise. With the lack of competitors for the week, you can expect it to sell a fair amount.
Isekai Izakaya “Nobu” is at Number 9 with its 14th volume. The series has made a consistent appearance on Oricon charts since Volume 9, however copies sold declined between Volume 12 and Volume 13. Note that Volume 12 had 53,486 copies sold in just 3 days whereas Volume 13 had to contend with 45,918 copies sold in its first week. Note that the Manga is an adaptation of the Light Novel of the same name, and in 2018, it received an Anime adaptation by Sunrise.
At Number 10 is Dandadan Volume 4. The series made a rather great impact in the first 5 days, selling 57,761 copies back in August 2021. Volume 2 saw copies sold jump to 85,717 copies in its first 7 days while Volume 3 did even better at 44,576 copies in just 3 days. You can expect Volume 4 to sell roughly the same amount as Volume 3 or even higher since it will be having the same number of days. Note that Viz Media will be releasing the official English volume this coming October 11, 2022. For now, you can check the simulpub of its chapters through Manga Plus right here!
Fuuto Tantei Volume 12 is 11th on the list. The Manga was last seen for Volume 11 in August 2021 selling 44,906 copies in its first 7 days. An Anime adaptation is planned for the title, slated for a release this coming Summer 2022 by Studio Kai. The promotional video is in fact out, however has been region locked, viewable only in Japan. If you know a way to get around the curb, you can try the link right here. At Number 12 is Bungou Stray Dogs’s 22nd volume. 3-day sales remain high for Volumes 19 and 20, but Volume 21 could not push the number higher despite having 6 days of sales. Bungou Stray Dogs received three seasons of Anime adaptation by studio Bones with the 4th season planned, however set to broadcast on an unannounced date.
Then, Ao no Hako Volume 4 is 13th, a series that you may be interested to check out considering its very encouraging performance for the first two volumes. Volume 2 for instance sold 74,740 copies in its first 7 days, and Volume 3 sold 73,171 copies in its first 6 days. Volume 4 will have a short 3 days of sales, hence it may not sell as many as the previous two. Mushikaburi-hime’s Manga adaptation of the Light Novel of the same name sees its 6th volume charting at Number 14. The Manga made an appearance for Volume 5, placing 8th on Oricon’s Top 30 chart between May 31 and June 6 at 53,877 copies sold in its first 7 days. An Anime adaptation is planned to be released this year on an unannounced date.
Mashle is 15th on the list with its 10th volume. Copies sold have been doing well for its past volumes with a slight dip in average sales between Volume 7 and Volume 8. The 3-day sales for Volume 9 is fewer than the 3-day sales of Volume 6. Volume 10 is expected to perform around the same as the two aforementioned volumes.
Sakamoto Days 6th volume was last seen with its 5th volume selling 36,247 copies in its first 6 days. It is also a title that is available via Manga Plus, so do give it a try right here! Aru Hi, Ohimesama ni Natte Shimatta Ken ni Tsuite Volume 6 is next at Number 19 with 3 days of sales, and according to its product page, it now has 1.65 million copies in circulation. Finally, Taizan 5’s Takopii no Genzai is 20th on the list with its debut volume. You can check out a number of its chapters for free via Shounen Jump Plus right here in Japanese.
