TSUTAYA Weekly Manga Sales Ranking: August 22 – August 28, 2022

Past releases are few on the chart for the week between August 22 and 28 as new releases dominate the Top 20 list bringing an assortment of titles from a plethora of publishers. Oni no Hanayome Volume 1 is ahead of the new releases, settling for the 5th spot in its first 3 days. The Manga is in fact an adaptation of the Light Novel of the same name that is being published by Starts Publishing. The series has more than 500,000 copies in circulation with more information about the work can be found here (including its circulation status) via its official web page. You can check out its 1st chapter right here in Japanese for free (for a limited time).

Right below is Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun Volume 18 in its first 3 days with physical sales expected to hit close to 80,000 copies based on the 3-day sales of Volume 14. Serialized in Square Enix’s GFantasy magazine, the series has so far amassed more than 8 million copies in circulation (Source: Square Enix) with further information about the work, plus its first chapter can be found via its official page right here. You can read its first chapter for free in Japanese via its direct link here. The Manga also received a prequel volume that spans a single volume and consists of four chapters that were released between June and August 2014. Yen Press is publishing the series officially in English with up to Volume 16 available for order as of the time of writing. In January 2020, studio Lerche adapted the work into a 12-episode TV Anime series.

Next on the list is Goblin Slayer Volume 13 in its first 4 days. Its past performance was stymied with the failure of Volume 11 to chart in its first 3 days amid strong competition, particularly from Jujutsu Kaisen. The volume however, rebounded the week after to sell 35,532 copies between April 26 and May 2. The series has consistently ranked between Volumes 8 to 10 with copies sold peaking at 92,909 copies for Volume 8 in its first 7 days, though the number dropped by 20.25% for Volume 10 (also in its first 7 days). Volume 9 sold 74,242 copies in its first 5 days. It was last seen with Volume 12 at 26,747 copies in its first 2 days back in December last year. Decent, but had it gone five days longer, it would still not have matched up well against sales of Volumes 8 and 10 seeing its average per day was considerably less than the two (at 13,000 copies, will be less the longer it goes). Volume 13 is expected to sell around 55,000 copies to 60,000 copies. Goblin Slayer also sees its spin-off title Year One on the list taking the 12th spot with its 9th volume in its first 4 days. The Light Novel that it is adapted from began its first publication in February 2016, and the Manga serialization commenced the same year in May by Kousuke Kurose. The work is serialized in Square Enix’s Big Gangan’s magazine with more information about it and several of its chapters can be found here via its official page. The series has more than 9 million copies in circulation (Source: LN News). White Fox adapted the series into a 12-episode TV Anime series in October 2018, and a follow up sequel film was released in February 2020. The title will be receiving a 2nd season TV Anime series, however, its actual broadcast date is still not known.

The series has more than 1.6 million copies in circulation (Source: KADOKAWA Books).
