It took awhile to release this as I have been experimenting on a number of new features to be added into my weekly TSUTAYA and COMIC ZIN’s post. You will find several new indicators added next to the names of the titles. The “plus” sign notes how many spots it has moved up, while the “minus” sign would do the opposite. The “NEW” sign if its release date falls within the period, an “equal” sign if it remains at the same spot. The “N/A” sign if it misses out on the previous week’s list. I have also added the actual release date for each of the title that made onto the charts. Plus, a new way of presenting the charts which present useful indicators such as “Days of Sales” and “Average per Day”. Please let me know what you all think!
It is thanks to the wonderful people over at Natalie.mu that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! Plus, all the data you find below is accessible via Natalie.mu right here. Be sure to check out sites TSUTAYA and COMIC ZIN by clicking on their names below as these lists would have not been possible if not for them!
First up! Several notable new releases have made their way onto the TSUTAYA’s chart for the week, led by Uchuu Kyoudai‘s 40th volume placing 3rd. The title last made its appearance with Volume 39 which saw 142,463 copies sold in its first week. Volume 36 to Volume 38 did see fewer copies sold when they were ranked in their own respective charts, however that is due to the short period of sales they had. Copies sold did bounce back on Week 2, though average of copies sold per day fell from Volume 36’s 20,121 copies to 17,832 copies. Both had the same number of days of sales as of Week 2. Volume 38 had longer days of sales of 11 days, but fell short of Volume 37’s 10-day sales of 178,320 copies to 163,101 copies, an 8.53% drop. Expect a better performance for Volume 40 if competition is not stiff.

At Number 5 is Giant Killing‘s Volume 59. Sales unfortunately have not been on the bright side for the series as it recorded fewer copies sold for each subsequent volume after Volume 52. For instance, despite having longer period of sales, Volume 54 sold only 82,983 copies in the week of its release, down from Volume 52’s 112,064 copies by 25.95%. Note that Volume 52 only had 6 days of sales. Copies sold were also slightly higher for Volume 53 (compared to Volume 54) which had 5 days of sales. Volume 55 and Volume 56 had similar number of days of sales with Volume 52 and Volume 53 respectively, yet could not repeat the number copies sold nor hit close enough to its prior volumes. Volume 57 on the other hand, failed to place itself on the Top 30 chart. Sales were at 45,000 copies sold for Volume 58 in its first three days, but it went on to place on Oricon’s chart the week after, selling better at 48,035 copies. That should put its two-week sales at 93,035 copies sold, averaging at around 9,000 copies sold in its first 10 days.

The final new release that has made onto TSUTAYA’s chart for the week would be Blue Period Volume 11 which follow right after Giant Killing Volume 59. Sales have been looking good for the series. Volume 8 had 43,820 copies sold in its first 5 days compared to Volume 7’s 46,252 copies, which had a full 7-day of sales when it was charted on Oricon’s Top 30. Volume 10 was even more impressive, selling 48,931 copies in just three days! Better than either of its 7th and 8th volumes. Yes, Volume 9 unfortunately failed to place on Oricon’s chart, and that is due Jujutsu Kaisen, and Kimetsu no Yaiba both having a very strong presence for the week between January 18 to January 24. The cutoff was 75,587 copies for Kimetsu no Yaiba Volume 7 at Number 30. Its Anime which has already started its broadcasting may push sales further for Volume 11, therefore we could expect perhaps its best sales ever.

Head over to Number 6 and you will find Watari Tori to Katatsumuri Volume 3. The title has appeared frequently on COMIC ZIN, having placed three times back in August 2020, February and March of 2021. Makoto Takatsu, the Mangaka worked on Shabon to Neko Uri before this until its serialization ended in March 2019. Two spots below is Yaiteru Futari Volume 4, a series about a couple who are trying to get to know each other better through a regular BBQ outing. The title can be found via Kodansha’s Morning magazine featuring some pretty good artwork by the author. You can check it out right here (in Japanese).

Yaiteru Futari spread as can be seen in its 1st chapter
Number 9 is a title you may be familiar with, Super Cub Volume 6. The series recently received an Anime adaptation which finished its broadcast in the month of June. This is actually a Manga adaptation of the Light Novel of the same name. While this is author’s Tone Kouken sole work, the artist, Hiro is working on a title that is set to receive an Anime adaptation, Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku. You can dive into the Manga’s first chapter right here (in Japanese).
Finally, on the chart at Number 10 is Kidou Senshi Gundam MSV-R: Johnny Ridden no Kikan Volume 22, a sequel to the 2006 Manga, Kidou Senshi Gundam MSV Senki: Johnny Ridden. Author Hajime Yatate carries on to work on the series, but this time with different artists onboard the project.
