The week between November 1 to November 7 presents two promising titles, one is a behemoth, which has been gaining traction in its domestic market rather significantly reaching as many as 498,984 copies sold within its first 3 days for the 7th volume. That is none other that Spy x Family which places 1st on TSUTAYA’s chart for the week, and 2nd on COMIC ZIN’s. Note that Volume 6 had higher sales amid longer days of sales of 7 days, and Volume 7 could have gone further had it done the same. Direct comparisons can be made with Volume 2 and Volume 5, both had 3 days of sales when charted. On October 31st, the official announcement came for its Anime adaptation, and has confirmed that its premiere would be in 2022 (please see the official promotional video down below), though its exact dates are still unknown. As such, it may see a slight boost for its sales, but remember this would only account to sales of up to 4 days. If all goes well, it should be able to beat sales of Volume 6.

Then, at Number 2 is another title that has been having a good track record as of late. Dr. Stone last made its debut back in August with sales of Volume 22 at 135,352 copies sold in its first 5 days. Volume 19 remains its biggest debut thanks to longer sales of 7 days as it placed 7th on the chart at 143,422 copies sold. With Volume 23 having 4 days of sales, turnout may be a lot closer to Volume 11, therefore it should see around 60,000 copies sold in the worst case scenario. Judging from its sales trend, it should be able to push the number above or around 100,000 copies sold (see Volumes 20 and 21, both had only 3 days of sales). The series is also expected to receive its upcoming Anime sequel on an unannounced date.
Number 4 is Kemono Jihen Volume 15, a title you may recall from its recently ended Anime run back in March 2021. It last made its appearance for Volume 13 which placed 20th at 46,489 copies sold in February 2021 and Volume 14 at the 12th spot with 35,032 copies sold in July 2021. The 14th volume then went on to rank at 30th with 40,518 copies sold on Week 2 to see total copies sold at a strong 75,550 copies. The Anime is clearly having a positive impact on the title.
Following right after is Fujimoto Tatsuki Tanpenshuu: 22 – 26 which last made its appearance for 17 – 21 between October 4 to October 10 at 61,984 copies sold. But it is Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi Volume 3 that you want to pay attention to as it is seen slowly making its mark on the sales charts with Volume 1 selling a good 32,073 copies in July 2021, and Volume 2 at 53,483 copies in August 2021. Shueisha also released a special promotional video (which is pretty cool) to promote the 3rd volume, and for those who are interested, you can check it out below.
TSUTAYA’s Top 10 list is also filled with several other notable titles such as Number 8’s The Fable: The Second Contact Volume 1, the sequel to The Fable which ended its serialization back in November 2019. Number 9’s Sousei no Onmyouji Volume 26 is a series that received an Anime adaptation by Studio Pierrot in 2017. It last made its appearances on the Top 30 for Volume 20 at 56,086 copies sold in December 2019, Volume 21 at 51,418 copies sold in March 2020 and Volume 23 at 40,082 copies sold in November 2020. Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken – Yuusha Avan to Gokuen no Maou at Number 10 is the latest addition to the Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken series which story centres around the younger version of Avan, setting 15 years before the main story.
