The week between May 17 to May 23 certainly presents an interesting list with no Jujutsu Kaisen nor Tokyo Revengers volumes ranking on both TSUTAYA and COMIC ZIN’s charts for the week. Nevertheless, the list on TSUTAYA is heavily occupied with familiar titles that have had great records with their prior volumes. One of which, sits at the top of the chart. Spanning two Anime seasons and another set to begin on an unannounced date, Aka Akasaka’s Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen‘s Volume 22 is definitely a title to watch out for. Copies sold for previous volumes in their first weeks have done well to stay above 100,000 copies with two-week sales selling beyond 200,000 copies for most. Though the two-week sales for Volume 18 did see a minute drop, being the weakest of the latest seven volumes at 195,182 copies. Volume 21 debuted at 120,724 copies, a sharp fall from Volume 20, but sales picked up the week after seeing 109,827 copies off the shelves. In contrast, Volume 20 only sold 82,615 copies in its second week. Expect Volume 22 to sell more or less the same.

One has really got to ask how Aka Akasaka does it as another one of his works is also listed on TSUTAYA’s chart following closely behind Blue Lock at number 3. Oshi no Ko scored well with its 3rd volume back in February when it saw copies sold reached 52,701 copies in its first week. It is highly probable that it may repeat a similar result. Speaking of Blue Lock, it is another series that has been gaining traction as of late, and it will likely garner more traction after winning best Shounen Manga at the 45th Kodansha Manga Awards. Although sales were rough in 2020, the title saw handsome sales in March 2021 with Volume 13 two-week sales hitting 98,383 copies sold.
At number 4 is Uma Musume Cinderella Gray‘s Volume 4 which has a high chance of making onto Oricon’s sales chart end of the week. Then, there’s JoJolion Volume 26 and Bakemonogatari Volume 13 at number 5 and 6 respectively. Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi has had an amazing turnout in 2020 with two-week sales of Volume 5 at 105,324 copies sold while Volume 6 saw 97,544 copies sold. Kinou Nani Tabeta had only one volume released in 2020, yet it stayed on Oricon’s chart for three weeks with Volume 17’s sales at 179,266 copies sold within the period. Likewise, Namaikizakari. too had only one volume released in 2020 with Volume 19 debuting at 49,825 copies sold. The series had a live-action drama released in 2017 and it also won Hakusensha E-book Award twice, one in 2018 and another the following year (Source: Natalie.mu). You can also check out Mitsubachi Miyuki’s other works which are mostly comprised of short chapters. Check out the drama trailer down below:
You may want to shift your attention to number 7’s Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. which had just received an official Anime announcement set to commence broadcasting this Fall 2021. Volume sales have been fluctuating on their first weeks with Volume 15 reporting the highest debut sales among its latest seven volumes. Unfortunately, due to tough competition in 2020, especially in the month of November, Volume 19 did not make onto Oricon’s Top 30 chart. The Anime announcement may provide a small boost to sales, which will find out this coming Friday.

COMIC ZIN features several similar titles to the ones at the top. It tends to be that double appearances would cement a title’s success on the Oricon’s chart. Therefore, you can expect Oshi no Ko to make a splash end of the week. Kimi wa 008 at number 3 is worked on by Syun Matsuena who also did Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi. If you were a fan of his works, do check the Manga out. Kouiu no ga Ii at number 5 is a title by Souryuu whose some works are not safe for work. We also get to see Haifuri‘s Volume 8, an adaptation of the Anime, High School Fleet at number 7. Chichi Chichi‘s is a Manga by Cool-kyou Shinja who you may know from Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon. Head a spot down, and there’s Maoujou de Oyasumi which received an Anime adaptation broadcasted in last year’s Fall Season.
