TSUTAYA and COMIC ZIN Weekly Tankoubon Sales Ranking via Natalie: December 6, 2021 to December 12, 2021

As we head into the second week of December, One Piece’s 101st volume held on strong to its Number 1 spot despite a lower than expected turnout in its first 3 days the week before. Copies sold were at 986,727, its lowest since Volume 94 which 3-day sales were at 1,182,323 copies. 10-day sales  performance for Volumes 94, 96, 99 and 100 were all between 1.4 to 1.5 million copies, however Volume 101 may not see a similar turnout. Though, there is still a chance where copies old could bounce back to see it achieve at least 1.4 million copies. As per what was seen, we may see perhaps around 1.3 million to slightly less than 1.4 million copies sold.

Several new faces made onto the TSUTAYA’s Top 10 list with Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken Volume 19 leading at Number 2. Sales have been doing very well for the series for its latest volumes, in particular Volumes 15 and above. Note that Volumes 12 and 13 were at 6 and 5 days of sales respectively, but turnouts were higher for Volumes 15, 16 and 17 which all had shorter days of sales. The dip for Volume 16 was due to it having 3 days of sales when charted. Volume 19 will have 4 days of sales, as such we should see between 240,000 to 260,000 copies sold, closer to the performances of Volumes 15 and 18.

Then, we have Arslan Senki at Number 6 with its 16th volume. Unfortunately, its past two volumes performances were evidently weaker than Volumes 12 and 14. Volumes 13 and 15 were at 5 days of sales, but copies sold were at 61,695 copies and 110,047 copies sold respectively as opposed to Volumes 12 and 14’s 93,123 copies and 107,521 copies sold in just 3 days. Volume 16, which will be having 4 days of sales when charted, is expected to sell between 50,000 to 80,000 copies.

Mix’s Volume 18 can be found at Number 8. The title made its appearances for Volume 16 and 17 which sold 127,416 copies and 98,547 copies within the span of 5 and 3 days respectively. If all goes well, it should see a similar turnout to Volume 17, if not around 80,000 copies is plausible.

Then, at Number 9 is a series that has seen explosive growth as of late. Mystery to Iu nakare experienced a sharp rise particularly from Volumes 5 onward. The most distinguished ones would be for Volumes 1 and 3 against Volume 8, Volume 4 against Volume 9. Note that Volume 8 had the same number of days with Volumes 1 and 3, of which they all had 5 days of sales when charted. However, Volume 8 sold nearly four times more than the aforementioned volumes. As for Volume 9, its 3-day sales were significantly higher than the 3-day sales of Volume 4. Volume 10 will have 3 days of sales, thus expect a similar outcome to Volume 9.

COMIC ZIN as usual features a slew of interesting new releases on its chart for the week led by Mizuki Setoguchi’s Local Joshi no Tooboe Volume 8. The seinen title started its serialization in 2016, publishing via Houbunsha’s Manga Time Special magazine of which several of its chapters can be accessed for free right here in Japanese. The author has worked on a number of titles prior to this such as Mentsuyu hitorimeshi and Oide yo! Ikemenzu.

Go down to Number 3 and you find Tonari no Figure Genkeishi Volume 3. Like Local Joshi no Tooboe, it too is serialized in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Special magazine.  Feel free to check out some of its chapters right here available for free in Japanese.

Further down at Number 5 would be Tsutomu Nihei’s Ningyou no Kuni Volume 9 or also known as APOSIMZ in English. The volume would be its final one. The author may be someone who are familiar to many as he had worked on several big names including: Blame! and Sidonia no Kishi, all have had Anime adaptations. Ningyou no Kuni currently has eight of its volumes published in the west, and a preview of its 1st volume can be accessed here in Japanese. If you are looking for something new to read, this could be a title worth picking up.

Coming right after is also another title with its last volume, Kanmuri-san no Tokei Koubou Volume 5. The title by author, Rin Hiwatari was published through Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross magazine. The Manga is a slice of life title that revolves around a character, Kanmuri Ayako who owns a watch workshop. Feel free to check out Chapter 1 available for everyone to read in Japanese right here.

Occupying the same spot is Asoko de Hataraku Musubu-san Volume 5 by Taishi Mori who you may have heard from titles such as: Radiation House or Kyou no Asuka Show. Amido.
