TSUTAYA and COMIC ZIN Weekly Tankoubon Sales Ranking via Natalie: December 20, 2021 to December 26, 2021

TSUTAYA’s Top 10 list for the week between December 20 to December 26 remains largely intact with past titles, however there are three new releases that can be seen. Placing 1st for the week would be the 18th and latest volume of Jujutsu Kaisen which coincides with the release of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie that came out a day earlier. Jump all the way to Number 9 and you will stumble upon the Special Edition of the volume that comes along with an acrylic calendar stand. Previously, the series saw a weak turnout for its 17th volume having 1,096,464 copies sold despite the much longer days of sales compared to Volumes 15 and 16. Volume 17 only narrowly beat the 16th volume thanks to its presales, which if included would have amounted to 1,169,329 copies sold. This time Volume 18 will have only 2 days of sales, as such it may note fewer copies sold.

Then, at Number 3 is Shuumatsu no Walküre Volume 13. The series has reported great sales as of late with Volumes 11 and 10, both reached record sales since Volume 6 of 112,093 copies and 95,968 copies sold respectively in their first 4 and 3 days of sales. To compare, Volume 6 had 105,090 copies sold in its first 7 days while Volume 7 was at 3 days of sales with 79,929 copies sold whereas Volumes 8 and 9 had 2 days of sales each. Note that Volume 11 went on sale a day after the broadcast of its Anime. Volume 13 will be having 7 days of sales, and thus we shall see a big turnout, which could very well be more than Volume 7’s sales.

Coming in at Number 5 is Akatsuki no Yona Volume 37. Its Manga’s performance has seen some good days, and not so good ones too. For instance, Volume 35 did well at 64,505 copies sold in 6 days, but this is rather low compared to Volume 31 and Volume 33 at 3 days and 4 days each with 61,025 copies and 78,573 copies sold. Amid stiff competition between December 14 to December 20, 2020, Volume 34 was jettisoned out of the Top 30 no thanks to Jujutsu Kaisen volumes that were selling like hot cakes at the time. Nevertheless, copies sold improved for Volume 36 which had 78,241 copies sold in its first 4 days, nearly identical to Volume 33. Expect a great turnout for the series Volume 37 seeing it will have 7 days of sales. If all goes well, it may accumulate roughly 80,000 copies sold or more.

As for COMIC ZIN, it is Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka? Volume 10 that takes the top spot for the week. So far, the Manga has not placed in the Top 30 since the blog started tracking Oricon sales chart. The series has received multiple Anime adaptations with the first season broadcasted back in 2014. Studio White Fox handled the production then along with the follow up season. It then received a film adaptation by production doA in 2017 before an OVA in 2019 and another TV animation series in 2020. With the slowdown of sales of Tokyo Revengers, we may finally see it charted in the Top 30.

Author, Yuuki Shikawa sees double appearances at Number 2 and Number 5 with Bernard-jou Iwaku. Volume 6 takes the higher spot while Utsu Gohan Volume 4 is the latter. You may be familiar with Bernard-jou Iwaku. since it actually received an Anime adaptation in 2016 spanning 12 episodes, plus a special episode in January of 2017. The Manga is serialized in Comic REX of which its 1st chapter is viewable here for free in Japanese. Utsu Gohan on the other hand can be found via Young Champion Retsu, and as usual, feel free to check it out right here in Japanese for free.

At Number 4 is Landreaall Volume 38. The series has frequently made appearances on COMIC ZIN’s sales chart but it has so far not been able to breach Oricon’s Top 30 chart. In 2017, it was adapted into a single episode OVA by studio Will Palette. You can check out the first 5 chapters available for free in Japanese via Kodansha’s Pocket Shounen magazine.

Over to Number 6 is Jinrouki Winvurga Volume 10 a Manga that has been published since 2016 by author, Shirou Tsunashima. Number 7 is the collective work of Rasenjin Hayami who has worked on a number of titles including Kutsuzure Sensen: Majo Vasenka no Sensou and Taihou to Stamp. Number 8 is Ume Aoki’s art work of Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica.

It is quite interesting to see Berserk placing 8th with its 41st volume, which is also its last. Note that the author, Kentaro Miura passed away this year in May 2021. Fret not, it also performs well on the TSUTAYA chart at Number 12 for the week, and it is expected to perform well on Oricon sales chart too with a high possibility of it being in the Top 10. If you have not given the series a try, I highly recommend you to do so as it is amazing. 

Sharing the 8th spot, and the final title on COMIC ZIN’s list for the week would be Stella no Mahou’s 10th volume which is also its last. In 2016, the series had an Anime adaptation by SILVER LINK. studio and two special episodes in 2017. The Manga was serialized in Manga Time Kirara Max of which a preview of its 1st volume can be accessed here for free in Japanese. So feel free to give it a try!
