TSUTAYA and COMIC ZIN Weekly Tankoubon Sales Ranking via Natalie: August 23, 2021 to August 29, 2021

The lack of noticeable releases during the August 23 to August 29 window has paved way for Tokyo Revenges to once again dominate the TSUTAYA weekly sales chart as it occupies spots 5 to 10 for the week. Titles which latest volumes were released last week such as Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen Volume 23 and Black Lagoon Vol. 12 retain their respective positions at Number 1 and Number 2, while two new titles can be found placing 3rd and 4th.

As for Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen Volume 23, it is expected to post strong sales for the week mirroring its past performance, and the lack of strong competition may allow it to hit closer to what its 21st volume did on its 2nd week, selling 109,827 copies at the time. Volume 22 however, could manage only 59,344 copies sold on Week 2, and was unable to see sales recover on Week 3 to match Volume 21’s two-week performance. As such, sales as of Week 2 for Volume 21 and Volume 22 were 230,551 copies and 205,934 copies sold respectively. As for Black Lagoon, sales are expected to recover for the week, therefore we may see an increase in copies sold.

It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Natalie.mu that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! The title you would want to keep a lookout for would be Coffee & Vanilla‘s Volume 18 at Number 3. Sales were sluggish in its opening weeks for Volumes 15 and 16 as the two registered only 42,319 copies and 43,232 copies sold, down from Volumes 13 and 14’s 66,083 copies and 65,581 copies sold. The Manga received a live action adaptation in 2019, and a spin-off title “Coffee & Vanilla Black” was introduced in 2018. So far, there has not been any Anime announcement. Sales are expected to stay nearly identical to what Volume 17 had produced in its first week.

The Manga adaptation of the Light Novel of the same name, Hitoribocchi no Isekai Kouryaku Volume 8 settles for 4th place for the week. The title has not made an appearance so far in the Top 30 Oricon sales chart ranking in 2020. As competition is rather stiff, in particular from Tokyo Revengers, it needs to at least get its numbers around 40,000 copies sold or more to have a chance to be on the Top 30, unless we see sales slowing down for Tokyo Revengers. Not to forget, the Light Novel is also available in English, released by Seven Seas Entertainment with the 1st volume already out for grabs, and Volumes 2 and 3 are expected to follow suit in February and March of 2022. You can check it out right here.
