The previous week was certainly a slow one for TSUTAYA as no new releases made onto its Top 10 chart, but between August 2 to August 8, things have turned around, welcoming seven titles in its rank. Big names include Boku no Hero Academia leading the chart at Number 1 with its 31st volume. Recent volumes had a rather fluctuating trend with debut sales between 200,000 copies to 300,000 copies for most while Volume 29 saw the highest debut achieved amongst its latest seven volumes. Despite the unstable debut sales, most volumes experienced stable two-week sales ranging around 400,000 copies sold. Volume 29 and Volume 30 were still higher than usual, reporting 501,391 copies and 474,383 copies sold respectively as of Week 2. Note that although Volume 29 had high sales, the volume could not retain its momentum from Week 3 onward, failing to list on Oricon’s Top 30 charts. Volume 30 were placed on Top 30 chart four weeks in a row with total number of copies generated at 572,698.

Following closely behind is Dr. Stone Volume 22. The Anime adaptation of the sequel has just concluded back in March and a follow up season was announced though the commencement is yet to be announced. As for sales of its Manga volumes, they have been doing very well. Number of copies sold on their debut weeks vary a lot, however ever since the adaptation of its Anime began, sales have retained near or above 80,000 copies sold. Debut sales hit an all time high with Volume 18 at 106,996 copies sold, and Volume 21 managed to see nearly the same amount, at 106,819 copies sold. Perhaps it will continue with a similar trajectory to see copies sold for Volume 22 to drop in its first week, but balances with the rest on Week 2. Nevertheless, a more preferred outcome would be another rise, which may occur at a low chance based on the trend observed.

Dragon Ball Super Volume 16 follows right after, but it has not seen a positive growth of debut sales in its last three volumes. Number of copies sold rose 29.13% debut-to-debut between Volume 12 and Volume 13, yet it could not see a similar outcome for Volume 14 and Volume 15 which the latter slid to its lowest ever recorded amongst its latest six volumes. That said, Volume 15 did manage to recover the following week, seeing sales improved to 76,679 copies bringing its total two-week sales at 150,971 copies, closer to previous volumes. The same did not happen to Volume 14 which failed to make the chart on its second week.

As for Grand Blue Volume 16 which comes in at Number 4 for the week, it should see a similar turnout as before though the stiff competition may bite into some of its sales. Sales were weaker for its 14th and 15th volumes, however the title managed to rebound for Volume 16 in its opening week selling 78,875 copies at the time. The series was announced to have gone into hiatus for a month due to one of the creators’ hospitalisation, but Inoue Kenji confirmed at the end of May that the duo were in good health (Sources: ANN; Twitter). The Manga was adapted into Anime back in 2018 with no sequels yet to be announced.

The release you would want to pay a very close attention to for the week is Number 7’s Dandadan a work by Yukinobu Tatsu who was formerly an assistant to Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of the famed Chainsaw Man. Publication started April the 6th and it is now on its 19th chapter, viewable through Shounen Jump+ (in Japanese). A simulpub is available in Spanish and Shihei Lin (a well-known Manga editor) recently announced that the English version is set to begin this month or September through Manga Plus. The Manga features some very elaborated artwork and is definitely suited for any action fans out there, so do give it a try!

A sneak peak of Chapter 1 which is available through Shounen Jump + right here.
Number 8 features Yuukoku no Moriarty Volume 15 which should produce a decent outcome thanks to a boost from its Anime adaptation. Volume 13 debuted back in November 2020 with 52,734 copies sold whereas Volume 14 recorded 38,341 copies sold in April 2021. Sales went higher on Week 2 for its 14th volume to see its two-week sales at 81,340 copies.

Made in Abyss retains its Number 1 spot on COMIC ZIN’s chart. Note that the 62,584 copies it sold the week before is 22.67% lower than sales of Volume 9 in its first week. Sales may recover the week between August 2 to August 8, so do keep a lookout. Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! Volume 7 is definitely one of the titles you should pay attention to on this chart as it comes in at 2nd place. Sales for the series have been going quite well although a dip was visible between Volume 4 and Volume 5 debut-to-debut. Nevertheless a Season 2 was announced to be aired in 2022 (Source: ANN) and that should keep interest in the series a lot longer. Therefore, do expect a similar turnout.
At Number 3, you will find Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan Volume 2, which sets in a world where a 52-year-old man was reborn in a world where he becomes Grace Auvergne, a noble girl. The Manga is by Michirou Ueyama who has worked on several titles before including: Age ’87 and Kijuushin Seiki Zoids. You can check out some preview of the 1st volume right here. Meika-san wa Oshikorosenai Volume 5 comes in 4th for the week, and more about the title can be viewed right down below through its promotional video:
Ruruu Minase’s Ooyasan wa Shishunki! Volume 14 places 4th for the week. The series was adapted into Anime back in 2016 with Seven Arcs Pictures at the helm of the project. Jikan Teishi Yuusha Volume 6 is a work by Yasunori Mitsunaga who you may have known from Kaibutsu Oujo. If you are interested about the title, you can check out some of the preview of its 1st volume right here. At Number 7 is Yoku Wakaranai keredo Isekai ni Tensei shiteita you desu Volume 7 a series by Ashi and Keyaki Uchiuchi. It is actually a Light Novel adaptation of the same name. A spot lower is TNSK’s Uchi no Shishou wa Shippo ga Nai Volume 6. The historical Manga was announced to receive an Anime adaptation on an unannounced date. Do check out the announcement video down below:
Finally, Bijin Onna Joushi Takizawa-san is a Manga by Yanbaru that is being published through Fujimi Shobo’s Dra-Dra Sharp#. Without further ado, the full list is as follows:
