Top Sales According to Series for the Month of October 2021

Here we go! I think many of you have seen this coming, Violet Evergarden tops the chart with sales made for the month of October reaching as high as 1,238.2 million yen (≈10.88 million USD), without tax, that should be 1,114.4 million yen (≈9.79 million USD) due to the strong sales posted by its film’s Blu-rays and DVDs. The title was already doing quite well with sales of its TV Animation series and the Eien to Jidou Shuki Ningyou film. The TV series alone saw debut sales of its Blu-rays and DVDs amounting to 24,286 copies while the Special Film noted a slight increase at 24,802 copies. In its five days, the latest movie sold a total 88,976 copies before dropping to 5,254 copies on Week 2 and rising again to 7,152 copies on Week 3. Its Movie’s lifetime sales as such have passed 100,000 copies sold! The movie also performed splendidly at the box office at 2.1 billion yen (≈20.23 million USD) as reported by Crunchyroll as of January 2021.

This would be Tokyo Revengers‘ fourth consecutive placing on the series’s chart as it finds itself 2nd at 1,030.6 million yen (≈9.07 million USD). It is quite apparent that the series is facing a continuous decline in sales after reaching an all time high in July. Its volumes used to comfortably place on the Top 30 charts, but have now retreated. We could assume that the title has now reached its maturity stage, but it should not be in the “decline” zone yet as the series is still publishing and may see stronger sales posted when new volumes appear.

3rd is Jujutsu Kaisen at 903.2 million yen (≈8.00 million USD). The series received a boost thanks to the release of its 17th volume, but surprisingly, its volume’s performance was not as strong as the ones that came before. Note that two-week sales for Volume 17 are weaker compared to Volume 16, which accumulated better copies sold despite having shorter days of sales. It performed slightly better than Volume 15 thanks to its presales. Nevertheless, it did sell a great amount. As of Oricon’s sales chart ending October 31, the volume’s lifetime sales have reached 1,520,532 copies. Of course, not to forget its upcoming film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie coming out this coming December the 24th which should help provide additional boost to its volumes’ sales, especially Volume 18 which release date so far has been set to December 25 right after the release of the film.
