Top Sales According to Series for the Month of May 2022

Spy x Family once again tops the monthly sales chart for the second consecutive month albeit a small drop of 10% recorded to 998.55 million yen (≈7.63 million USD) from the 1,109.50 million yen (≈8.48 million USD) it made the month before. Much of the slowdown in sales were recorded between May 9 and May 29 after peaking between April 4 and April 10 (immediately after the broadcast of its Anime), while a strong performance was observed again between May 2 and May 8.

The continuous, strong performance of the series is mainly driven by two factors: its Books and Manga which have been featuring consistently on their respective charts since April 4th. Much of its sales is said to be concentrated on its Manga according to Oricon which is also the 3rd best-selling series for the first half of the year (between November 22, 2021, and May 22, 2022). Note that the graph featuring the comparison between the sales and copies sold may be limited (for the Manga and Book) as I only cover the volumes that made onto the Top 20 and Top 30 charts. When it comes to its individual Manga volumes, all of its volumes have been making consistent appearances on every Top 30 chart since April 11. It noted a strong start between April 4 and April 10 amid the entrance of its 9th volume which debuted at 606,281 copies sold in its first week.

To continue, right over here, the impactful sales it had between May 2 and May 8 were mostly due to its individual Manga volumes that noted an increase in volumes sold from its prior week, plus the impressive debut sales performance of its Fanbook: Eyes Only (78,611 copies sold in its first week). At the time, Volumes 1 to 9 (excluding the Volume 1 to 3 set) total copies jumped 9.47% to 587,689 copies from the 532,057 copies it sold the week before.
