Top Sales According to Series for the Month of January 2023

Slam Dunk maintained its Number 1 position on the series sales chart for the month of January with total sales (without tax) strengthened by 2.80% to 1,105.20 million yen (≈8.35 million USD), bringing its total gross sales so far (for both the months of December 2022 and January 2023) to 2,180.25 million yen (≈16.48 million USD). On the weekly sales charts, the series were seen making its presences continuously from December 26 to January 15 before paving way for others to rank on the Top 3 the week between January 16 and January 22. It was also not on the Top 3 for the week between January 23 and January 29, though for the two weeks that it was absent, total sales should put it at 332.19 million yen (≈2.51 million USD). Sales here take into account all segments with a higher concentration of sales being derived from its Manga department.

Likewise, Blue Lock at Number 2 retained its position to also report higher sales, 26.00% more to 1,006.02 million yen (≈7.61 million USD). This would put its total sales performance for both December 2022 and January 2023 at 1,750.50 million yen (≈13.24 million USD) mainly thanks to strong sales of its Manga, supported by the broadcast of its Anime that was still airing at the time of writing. Apart from sales of its Manga (which was its largest), the series performance here is also inclusive of its Video, Music, Books and Novels.

Finally, Bocchi the Rock! made its breach into the Top 3 with total sales amounting to 866.79 million yen (≈6.56 million USD) as tracked by Oricon. The series was seen twice in the weekly Top 3, first between December 26, 2022 and January 1, 2023, spearheaded by sales of its Kessoku Band album that witnessed 72,553 copies sold in its first 5 days. The series was not present on the Top 3 for the next three weeks before re-emerging between January 23 and January 29, 2023, due to strong performance of its Anime’s 2nd volume Blu-ray and DVD that saw 17,619 copies sold in 5 days, up by 4.92% from the debut performance of Volume 1.

For Bocchi the Rock!, the Kessoku Band album mentioned above in fact continued to perform splendidly on Oricon’s album charts, being in the Top 10 the five consecutive weeks from December 26, 2022 to January 29, 2023 with total copies sold during the period at 118,709. As such, for the month of January, it is its Music segment that was the biggest contributor to sales, supported by its Video and Manga segments.
