Top Sales According to Series for the Month of April 2023

The release of Spy × Family‘s 11th compiled volume has propelled the series to claim the top spot on Oricon’s monthly series chart, achieving massive sales of 793.08 million yen (≈5.91 million USD). The series initially ranked in the Top 3 for the week between April 3 and April 9, coinciding with the release of its 11th volume on April 4, where it sold an impressive 661,349 copies within the first six days. However, it did not rank for the following three weeks (up to April 30), during which its total sales would have amounted to 256.23 million yen (≈1.91 million USD). The sales across this period encompass all segments, with a significant emphasis on its Manga department.

Shomonai Bokura no Renairon secures the second spot on the list with sales of 484.56 million yen (≈3.61 million USD). This success can be largely attributed to the live-action TV drama’s music performance, which served as the sole contributor to sales for the month. The drama featured the boy band JO1 performing the single “Tropical Night,” which sold a total of 304,864 copies within the first five days. It’s worth noting that the series is an adaptation of the Manga by Hidenori Hara, serialized in Shogakukan’s Big Comic magazine from January 10, 2019, to April 9, 2021. The live-action drama premiered on NTV and YTV on January 19, 2023, and is currently ongoing.

Lastly, “Oshi no Ko” takes the third position with sales of 468.00 million yen (≈3.49 million USD). Although no new volume of the Manga was released during the period, the Anime adaptation had a positive impact on the overall series, generating increased demand and reaction. This effect can be observed, especially during the week between April 10 and April 16, coinciding with the release of the Anime’s first episode. The momentum continued to strengthen the following week before experiencing a slight slowdown, as indicated in the Top 30 Manga sales chart above. Given that the Anime adaptation is set to continue until the end of the spring season, the series may maintain its momentum for a while longer. It’s important to note that these sales are solely from the Manga segment.
