It is also worth noting that the data presented on both ICv2 and Publishers Weekly come from The NPD Group, more specifically through their subsidiary, Circana BookScan. The entity uses point of sale (POS) to track sales of products, but it does not cover the entirety of the US market since some stores do not participate in Circana’s daily reporting. As of the time of writing, according to NPD’s webpage, the Circana BookScan only covers approximately 85% of the total trade print books sold in the country.
