Note that this a follow-up to the following yearly sales charts: here (2019) and here (2020) chart.
Jujutsu Kaisen volumes are dominant in the individual ranking with all eighteen volumes placing in the Top 30 led by the 14th volume at 2,312,250 copies sold. The volume had a great start selling 1,138,798 copies in just 4 days back in January. The title hit its peak with Volume 16 at 1,165,681 copies sold before noticing a decline to 1,096,464 copies for Volume 17 in its debut week. Of course, sales are a notch better if we take into account presales of 72,865 copies, but the fact that it had longer days of sales has put it in a tough position.
It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! Plus, all the data you find below can be accessed via Oricon right here (Individual) and here (Series).
However, Kimetsu no Yaiba volumes are still as popular as ever as Volume 23 tops the chart at 5,171,440 copies sold, more than double Jujutsu Kaisen’s best performing volume. Coming in at Number 2 is also another related title, Kimetsu no Yaiba Gaiden edging past Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 14 by a small amount. Volume 23 at the time of its release was at 2,855,169 copies sold in just 3 days, the best thus far since the yearly chart of 2019. In 2019, One Piece’s Volume 93 was perhaps the best at 1,378,177 copies sold in its first 4 days. Kimetsu no Yaiba as a series also went on to see 6,054.9 million yen (≈53 million USD) worth of sales made within the release week of Volume 23 as Jujutsu Kaisen placed 2nd at 526.8 million yen (≈4 million USD), both tax inclusive.
That said, One Piece is still doing rather well with individual volumes still going strong for the aggregated period. Its 99th volume has a slight advantage over Volume 100 to place 8th at 1,863,574 copies sold. The series was struggling as a result of strong competition from the likes of Kimetsu no Yaiba, Jujutsu Kaisen and Tokyo Revengers. However, it noted a small improvement between Volume 99 and Volume 100, both had 3 days of sales. Still, this is a few steps back from Volume 93 at 1,378,177 copies sold in its first 4 days. Volume 94 which also had 3 days of sales saw better copies sold than Volumes 99 and 100, though by not a substantial amount. Nevertheless, One Piece is expected to remain consistent in the years to come, so do expect to see more of it.
Head all the way to Number 26 and you will find the sole non-Shueisha title, Shingeki no Kyojin Volume 33 at 1,256,922 copies sold. It is quite interesting to not see Volume 34 in the Top 30 seeing it had a much better opening week back in June at 897,677 copies in its first 5 days. Compared to Volume 33 which had 490,937 copies in its first 3 days.
And then, there is Spy x Family Volume 6 at 27th with 1,229,131 copies sold. The said volume had a great turnout in its first week where it managed to sell 537,558 copies. Volume 7 on the other hand could achieve 498,984 copies in just 3 days. However, its latest volume is struggling. Copies sold are perhaps at its lowest, 395,495 copies in its first 4 days, much weaker than Volume 7. Although this is still above Volumes 5 and 3, it is still concerning. We should observe further how future volumes would perform, particularly after the Anime’s broadcast begins.

While Jujutsu Kaisen tops the chart to be the best seller for the year, this is nowhere near Kimetsu no Yaiba’s 82,345,447 copies sold the year before. If we add sales of Kimetsu no Yaiba from 2019, its total within these three years would amount to a staggering 123,914,096 copies sold!
Tokyo Revengers did not perform that bad either, placing 3rd at 24,981,486 copies. The series has been gaining traction since the airing of its Anime with its sales as a series seeing good revenue for the past few months. Notably, the month of July.
As for Boku no Hero Academia may have seen its best yearly sales ever at 7,020,361 copies, which is stronger than sales posted in 2018, which at the time was 6,718,185 copies. As for Shingeki no Kyojin, this is still less than 2015’s 8,778,048 copies sold.
