Nintendo’s Top Selling Software and Units as of September 30, 2020

The release of Nintendo’s recent quarterly report for the first half of Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21), ending September 30 has allowed us to access the latest data in relation to sales of Nintendo’s software and hardware along with the company’s financial condition. Sales of hardware and software have recorded higher growth when compared to Fiscal Year 2020 for the same period (Quarter 1 to Quarter 2) with both Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite reporting a 68% as well as 113.7% improvement respectively. Software has jumped by 71.4% with 100.25 million units sold the first half of FY21.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best selling game thus far, but Animal Crossing: New Horizons is slowly approaching from behind while Super Smash Bros. Ultimate settles for 3rd.

However, flip over to Page 17, you will find some very interesting information. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold 14.27 million copies in the first half of FY21, eclipsing others.

As for hardware, Nintendo DS is still quite a distant for Nintendo Switch to catch up, as it sits in at number 6, with worldwide sales reaching 68.3 million units. It still needs to sell more than half to beat sales of Nintendo DS.

Sales of Nintendo Switch is still the highest in the Americas. Nintendo Switch sold 2.59 million units and at the same time, Nintendo Switch Lite sold 1.87 million units in the Americas. Europe saw sales of the two units at 2.16 million units and 1.14 million units respectively. Likewise, software sold the most in the Americas reaching 45.59 million copies.
