Here are the following comments from the authors:

Tsurumaikada

Medalist is about aiming for a medal in figure skating, and as the Manga Award’s name suggests, I have always wanted to experience being a medalist for a long time. This time, winning the gold medal at this big award, I am incredibly happy. During the nomination period, we also received a lot of support. I would like to really thank all of our readers who have given me, a person who can do nothing but draw Manga, the valuable chance to experience the feeling of being a player aiming for the winners’ podium. I believe that it is by no means being first place will ensure that this work will be recognized in the future, however, in 2022, at this moment of what I can unimaginably fathom to happen from now on, I will transform all of this emotion that is swelling up from winning the award into creating an enjoyable work that is Medalist.

Following the winners’ announcement, the official Twitter account of Medalist also thanked readers for their support:

Congratulations 🎉 to Medalist for winning the first price for the Manga category at the Next Manga Awards 2022! 🥇

We really, really, really thank you for so many votes!

Jinushi

Unlike the Next Manga Awards 2021, the lists had winners that had a good track record in the sales department, particularly physical sales that were oftentimes found on Oricon’s sales charts. This year’s edition however, such Manga are not present. Medalist is not really that new, having been serialized since May 2020, and it has so far not ranked on the Oricon Top 30 charts since the Blog began tracking. Medalist winning an award is also nothing new here, seeing it has done so before in the last 6th Tsutaya Comic Awards and was ranked 15th and 12th respectively in the Nationwide Bookstore Employees’ Recommended Comics in the years 2021 and 2022. If its physical copies are not up to par, fret not as it is most likely doing really well digitally.

Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari is still a fresh new series, having only begun as a web manga in March this year. That said, it is probably one of the two series here (winners) that has the chance to perform well in the coming Oricon sales chart. The 1st volume of the Manga was ranked both on TSUTAYA and COMIC ZIN’s charts for the week between August 22 and August 28. And with such unexpected high demand for the volume, it will be reprinted according to the author’s official Twitter account.
