Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: September 25 – October 1, 2023

After strong gains made the week before, hardware sales have mostly contracted across the board with only PlayStation 5 Digital Edition reporting a rise week-over-week but not enough to see the console at higher units sold than the week before being down by 1.68% to 45,946 units from 46,729 units.

Switch consoles in total have noted a drop of 22.13% to 56,528 units from 72,590 units, however, it still maintains more than 50% of the market share like the week before. Xbox Series and New 2DS LL have plunged by 50.01% and 63.01% respectively whereas PlayStation 4 has succumbed to a 39.74% drop in sales to 423 units.

New releases dominate the Top 10 list with Fate/Samurai Remnant taking point with a total of 68,500 copies sold for its Switch, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 editions. The action role-playing video game is set in the 4th year of the Keian Era during the Edo Period as Seven Masters aim for the Waxing Moon. In the game, you play as Miyamoto Iori or Saber. Then, EA Sports FC 24 is next with a combined sales of 44,098 copies for its Switch, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 editions. The game contains, according to EA, more than 19,000 fully licensed players, 700 teams, 30 leagues and 300 global partners around The World’s Game. You can check out the gameplay trailer below to have a feel of the game.

Ys X: Nordics sees its PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Switch editions at a total of 34,409 44,592 copies sold in four days on the Top 10 with its PlayStation 4 edition very likely to occupy the Top 11 to 30 tomorrow. The tenth installment of the game, and as usual, Adol Christin makes a return to the game being on his way to Celceta together with Dogi and Dr. Flair Rall. The game will also feature a main heroine, Karja Balta, a Norman pirate who is of the same age as Adol. Check out its promotional video for more information about the game.

Finally, we have Infinity Strash: DRAGON QUEST The Adventure of Dai with its Switch, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 editions at Number 2 at 24,367 38,844 copies sold. Note that the game is also out on the PlayStation and Xbox consoles with the PlayStation editions of the game expected to make their debuts in the lower 11 to 30. The action RPG, based on the Manga and Anime, focuses on Dai’s adventure, and his quest to become a true hero. Do check out its launch trailer below to learn more about the game.
