Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: May 29 – June 4, 2023 (Updated)

Switch consoles sold a total of 88,349 units from May 29 to June 4, which is a 2.11% increase from the prior week’s sales of 86,524 units, despite a decline in sales for its OLED edition. This allows the console to maintain its Number 1 position with a market share of 70.1% for the week. The PlayStation 5 experienced a 7.39% decrease week-over-week, settling at 35,276 units and capturing a market share of 28.0%. The Xbox Series saw a decent 36.10% jump, marking its first increase in several weeks, with sales of 328 units. The New 2DS LL showed a gain of 65.38% with 43 units sold. However, the most notable increase in units sold for the week was seen by the PlayStation 4, which went from 966 units to 2,086 units, representing a 115.94% increase compared to the previous week.

As for software, the Top 10 is almost filled with new releases. It starts with the remastered edition of Atlus’ first-person dungeon exploration game, Etrian Odyssey I・II・III, which takes the 2nd spot on the list with 38,656 copies sold in its first four days. Street Fighter 6 occupies two spots, sitting side by side at Number 3 and Number 4, selling 21,192 copies and 12,078 copies for its PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 editions, respectively. This puts the total number of copies sold at 33,270 within the first three days. According to a press release by Capcom, the game has sold 1 million units worldwide, with the entire franchise having reportedly surpassed 50 million units sold cumulatively. If you head over to Number 6, you will find We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie, which sold 8,415 copies in its first four days for its Switch edition while its PlayStation 5 version can be found at Number 28 with 1,406 copies sold. This game is a remake of the PlayStation 2 exclusive where you roll the katamari, picking up objects in your path to make it larger.
