Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: May 16, 2022 to May 22, 2022

Units sold for hardware for the week between May 16 and May 22 are up across the board with the PlayStation 5 consoles seeing the biggest gains. The vanilla PlayStation 5 is up 82.44% week-on-week while the Digital Edition improves by 70.24%. The two consoles in total are at 14,277 units, making up 16.5% of the total sales of all consoles listed here for the week. Xbox Series too have experienced a jump in sales with the Series X catapulting as much as 89.13% (the largest on the list) from previous week, and a minor improvement is recorded for Series S by 0.73%, putting the two at 7,131 units sold. Switch consoles remain atop as usual, however, total units sold have fallen by a small 0.74% to 64,839 units. The PlayStation 4 is down by 9.09%, and New 2DS LL has recorded 8.20% better growth from the prior week.

As for software sales, all of the past titles on the Top 10 have reported weaker sales from the week before with eBASEBALL Powerful Pro Baseball 2022 succumbing to the biggest drop at 30.49% with 7,210 copies sold for its Switch edition. Nevertheless, we get to see two new releases making it onto the chart.

Taikou Risshiden V DX (DX stands for Deluxe) is placed 2nd on the list with its Switch edition selling 21,710 copies in its first 4 days. Note that the game is also available on PC. To commemorate the series 30th anniversary, Taikou Risshiden V DX, a simulation RPG game which is a remaster edition of the 2004 game, is the fifth title in the series where you can play as characters in different roles: a warrior, a merchant, a ninja, a pirate and many more. Head over to Number 9 and you will find Snow Bros. Special at 4,608 copies sold in its first 4 days, brought to you by DAEWON MEDIA, a South Korean based company which specializes in character and animation-related business. The platform game, which is an upgraded version of the game that appeared in the arcades in the 1990s, can be played with two players at a time and features what it calls a “Monster Challenge” mode where you play as the monsters.
