Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: March 23, 2020 ~ March 29, 2020

Sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons remain strong going into the 4th week of March according to Famitsu’s latest sales chart available here. So, please visit the awesome guys over at Famitsu and show them some love!

However, Animal Crossing has seen a drop of slightly above 60% of their sales for the week between March 23 and March 29 where the number of copies sold in Japan decline from 1,880,626 copies sold the week before to 727,791 copies. The total sold thus far is currently at 2,608,417 copies. For comparison, Pokémon Sword and Shield sold 382,540 copies on its second week. Sales is expected to continue due to the ongoing “Easter” event starting this week’s 1st of April till 12th.

One noticeable new title making into the top 10 list is One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 taking both 2nd and 3rd spot for the week. In total, the game managed to sell 137,569 copies.

Sales of hardware on the other hand did not leave a good impression for the week as only sales of Xbox One S climbed from the previous week’s 30 units sold to 74 units sold. Nintendo Switch saw the biggest drop for the week as sales plummeted by about 60%. The sales of hardware is summarized as below:

5. Xbox One S / 74 (↑59.46%) (units (total sold: 93,072 units)
6. Xbox One X / 236 (↓16.01%) units (total sold: 19,576 units)

On the other hand, 2DS and 3DS are as follows:

  • New 2DS LL / 895 units (↓0.11%) (total sold: 1,704,205 units)
  • New 3DS LL / 45 (↓64.29%) units (total sold: 5,886,835 units)
