Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: March 2, 2020 ~ March 8, 2020

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, the remake version of the Game Boy Advance game sits at the top of the weekly video game sales ranking chart for the period between March 2, 2020 ~ March 8, 2020 according to Famitsu latest weekly ranking data available here. Sales of Pokémon did stop just there, as it is followed right away with another heavy hitter at number 2 with Pokémon Sword and Shield. Though, sales have plummeted almost 17% for the week. Minecraft saw a slight increase in sales as it settles for number 3.

However, things did not bode well for Persona 5 Scramble as sales continue to drop for both platforms of the game with the PS4 version of the game falling the hardest. The PS4 version of the game fell 58.42% in sales and dropped 5 spots to number 7 while the Switch version declined 7 spots to number 15 as sales saw a 46.51% reduction.

As for sales of hardware, Famitsu has noted here that sales of Nintendo Switch has fallen as it sold only 4,424 units down 70% amid concerns about shortages due to the coronavirus outbreak. I have summarised the hardware sales as below:

5. Xbox One S / 60 (↑41.67%) (units (total sold: 92,941 units)
6. Xbox One X / 29 (↓21.62%) units (total sold: 19,028 units)

On the other hand, 2DS and 3DS are as follows:

  • New 2DS LL / 1,220 units (↑12.79%) (total sold: 1,701,149 units)
  • New 3DS LL / 77 (↑12.99%) units (total sold: 5,886,567 units)
