Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: March 16, 2020 ~ March 22, 2020

Animal Crossing: New Horizons debuts with a bang! the week between March 16 and March 22 with 1,880,626 copies estimated to have been sold for for the week according to Famitsu’s latest weekly sales chart available here. The long awaited title sold close to 2 million copies within a span of 3 days where its sales exceeded Pokemon Sword and Shield and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on their first week debut. Pokemon Sword and Shield sold 1,364,000 copies when it was launched while Super Smash Bros. Ultimate managed to sell 1,238,000 copies.

The week also saw sales improved for a number of titles such as Minecraft though Nioh 2 and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon experienced a decline (of about 72% and 53% respectively). Sales of hardware according to Famitsu here proved to be rather interesting for the week with sales of Switch hardware climbing exponentially for the week. Sales of Switch hardware rocketed by about 90% while Switch Lite saw an 82% jump in sales. You can find the details as below:

1. Switch / 129,473 units (↑90.89%) (total sold: 11,022,420 units)
2. Switch Lite / 263,103 units (↑82.72%) ( (total sold: 1,778,802 units)
3. PS4 / 11,156 units (↑5.74%) ( (total sold: 7,447,501 units)
4. PS4 Pro / 4,237 (↓3.90%) units ( (total sold: 1,480,008 units)
5. Xbox One S / 30 (↑10%) (units (total sold: 92,998 units)
6. Xbox One X / 281 (↑88.97%) units (total sold: 19,340 units)

On the other hand, 2DS and 3DS are as follows:

  • New 2DS LL / 896 units (↓29.17%) (total sold: 1,703,310 units)
  • New 3DS LL / 126 (↑23.02%) units (total sold: 5,886,790 units)
