Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: July 17 – July 23, 2023

Hardware sales have noted a rebound across the board with the exception of New 2DS LL in Japan which fell 26.67% week-over-week to end at 22 units sold as opposed to previous week’s 30 units. Switch rose 9.63% to 71,180 units for the week, gaining a 0.1% market share with its lifetime sales about to go over the 30 million mark. PlayStation 4 experienced a small increase in units sold by 2.42% to 46,561 units which should see the brand exceed the 4 million mark in lifetime sales the following week. Xbox Series climbed 33.26% to settle at 33.26% at 1,158 units or 0.9% of the total market share whereas PlayStation 4 had the largest gain among all consoles, 261.19% more than the week before at 4,309 units.

Two new releases can be found on the Top 10 list for the week. Pikmin 4 sits atop of the chart comfortably with 401,853 copies sold in its first three days, a 134.52% gain over Pikmin 3 Deluxe that made its debut with 171,349 copies in its first three days back in October 2020. Note that the jump in units sold over its predecessor can also be a reflection of the increase in the install base of Switch machines whereby its lifetime sales as of the time of writing puts it a 90.03% more than when it did between October 26 and November 1, 2020. Jumping over to Number 4 and Number 5, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Rebirth with Power Up Kit‘s Switch and PlayStation 4 sit side by side at 10,633 copies and 10,434 copies, putting the two at 21,067 copies sold in their first four days.
