Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: July 10 – July 16, 2023 (Updated)

Hardware sales have noted a decline for most consoles with only the Xbox Series registering an increase in sales for the week, by 5.46% to close marginally higher at 869 units. Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and New 2DS LL have all suffered a drop with the PlayStation 4 recording 62.67% less sales than the week before to sell 1,193 units whereas New 2DS LL sold 31.82% fewer to 30 units. Switch saw its sales down by nearly 25% at 64,926 units, and PlayStation 5 witnessed a minor setback of 6.96% at 45,459 units. The two consoles are expected to cross the 30 million and 4 million units sold mark, if the momentum goes up the following week, between July 17 and July 23, or the week after that.

The week’s chart has two new releases making it onto the Top 10. Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg occupies two spots with the Switch edition being the 2nd best selling game for the week at 16,101 copies while the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions can be found at Number 9 and Number 18 with 5,078 copies and 3,402 sold respectively. In total, that would be 24,581 units sold within the first four days. Please note that as of the time of writing, the game was also launched on the PlayStation 4 platform and may occupy the lower 11 to 30. The game, as the title suggests, is the remake version of Gust’s 1997 role-playing game with more information about it can be learned here through its official web page, or you can watch its launch trailer below.

Then, at Number 6 is another RPG game, Touhou Shinsekai with a slow start of 6,436 units in its first four days. You can learn more about the game via its promotional video down below.
