Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: February 20 – February 26, 2023

The PlayStation 5 consoles continue its strong run registering 91,729 units in sales for the week, up by 3.47% to take up 59.0% of the market share with Switch consoles, despite improvements in all fronts, still came in behind at 61,384 units, 25.54% more than the week before with 39.5% of the market share.  Xbox Series saw total units sold nosedived by 88.98% to 727 units from previous week’s 6,600 units accounting to only 0.5% of the market while PlayStation 4 consoles moved up by 4.11% to 1,646 units, allowing it to take home a larger slice of the pie than the Xbox Series. New 2DS LL on the other hand, slowed down by 8.86% to close at 72 units sold for the week.

The Top 10 software list for the week is vibrant, with a nearly all-new cast of games. Leading the list is Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, which sold 189,031 copies in its first 3 days. This platformer game is an enhanced remake of the 2011 Wii game. You can learn more about it by watching its launch video.

Octopath Traveler II takes up two spots on the Top 10 list, with the Switch version outselling the Playstation 5 edition, selling 53,995 units compared to 14,422 units sold. This would bring the total sold for both versions to 68,417 units. The PlayStation 4 version had sold 7,269 copies, bringing the total to 75,686 units in their first 3 days, now with the Top 30 list made available. The sequel to the 2018 series is also available on the PlayStation 4 and Steam. You can learn more about the game through its launch trailer.

Like a Dragon: Ishin! came in 3rd and 4th on the list, selling a total of 67,336 copies in its first 5 days for both its PlayStation editions. The game is a remake of the 2014 edition, initially released on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. You can find out more about the game by watching its trailer.

The final new game on the Top 10 list for the week was ARK: Survival Evolved, which sold 13,200 copies in its first 3 days. You can learn more about the game’s Switch edition by watching its launch trailer.
