Japan Top Weekly Video Game Sales Ranking: December 26 – January 8, 2023 (Two-week)

Since the data you see below would be for two-week occurring from December 26 to January 8, there will be no week-on-week comparisons.

A couple of key takeaways here would be that Nintendo Switch’s consoles performed amicably among the rest as it took up 73.3% of the total market share for the week at 250,718 units sold, slowly, but surely will hit the 30 million mark within the next couple of weeks. PlayStation 5 consoles sold the second most at 85,156 units, 24.9% of the market share with units sold nearing the 2.5 million mark. Xbox Series sales were disappointing, selling only 1,739 units throughout the two weeks. PlayStation 4 settled down to 4,128 units after strong performances seen in the past two weeks while New 2DS LL were at 419 units sold.

As for software sales, the two-week sales chart was led by Pokémon Scarlet and Violet at 291,322 copies sold with total lifetime sales hitting 4,630,253 copies. Splatoon 3 maintained its 2nd position at 107,700 copies with its lifetime sales at 3,795,514 copies. As for others, the 68,772 copies sold for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had thrust its total lifetime sales to pass the 5 million mark whereas Nintendo Switch Sports is about to reach 1 million copies in physical sales in Japan in the next coming weeks.
