Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: August 7 – August 13, 2023

Switch consoles’ total units sold for the week maintains its hegemony despite the 1.57% slowdown in sales over previous week, from 93,210 units to 91,744 units. The drop in sales here has also caused Switch to note a slight decrease in market share from 63.1% to 62.6%. PlayStation 5 gained 1% more units sold over last week’s 50,358 units to close at 50,862 units, though it is its predecessor that was quite impressive for the week. PlayStation 4 rose 95.56% to 1,543 units. The Xbox Series and New 2DS LL both fell 30.04% and 48.21% respectively to 2,292 units and 29 units each.

As mentioned in the post for the previous week’s chart, many of the older and more family oriented games have been noting an increase in sales thanks to the Obon holiday where the market slowly gained momentum the week before and got stronger near the end of this week. Pikmin 4 holds its Number 1 position as it comfortably passed the 600,000 mark in physical copies sold in Japan. While the rest have all climbed, Splatoon 3 at Number 8 is the only title to have recorded a drop.
