Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: August 29 – September 4, 2022

Hardware sales for the week between August 29 and September 4 sees nearly all consoles reporting fewer units sold than the week before. Switch is still the best performing console with 98,168 units sold for the week accounting to 79.2% of the sales, but it noted 13.53% less sales than the prior week. PlayStation 5 sold 20,292 copies that week, down by 19.18% for the previous week while Xbox Series is down by 67.49% week-on-week to 5,438 units. PlayStation 4 and New 2DS LL also reported a drop in sales with New 2DS LL slipping below the 100 units sold territory.

As for software, three new titles made it onto the Top 10 list with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R leading the way at 19,807 copies sold in its first 4 days. The game is a fighting game that was developed by CyberConnect2 and is also available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S. Note that this is the remastered version of the 2013 game, but also comes with new game mechanics and playable characters (Source: Wikia). Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is 4th on the list with its Switch version at 12,542 copies sold whereas the PlayStation 4 version is five spots below at 7,720 copies sold. Together that will be 20,262 copies in its first 4 days. Also available on Steam, the game is based on the Anime that it is adapted from to allow players to experience an original story that was supervised by the original author Akihito Tsukushi and relive the events that occurred throughout the Anime series (Source: Wikia). Finally, we have The Last of Us Part I at Number 5 with 10,954 copies sold in its first 3 days and is a remake of the 2013 title by Naughty Dog. More about the title can be learned via its launch trailer down below.
