Japan Top Weekly Video Game Ranking: August 21 – August 27, 2023

Hardware sales in Japan have shown a sign of recovery as most consoles had reported a rise in sales week-over-week. However, total units sold for Switch have not been that reciprocal, noting another decline, this time by 7.81% to 71,702 units sold from 77,780 units the prior week. Apart from Switch, New 2DS LL is the only other brand that experienced a drop in sales at 59 units sold or 39.18% less than the week before.

As for PlayStation 5, total units sold have jumped a decent amount by 14.22% to 42,730 units while its predecessor, the PlayStation 4 registered about 10% growth to 672 units. The Xbox Series saw the biggest gain for the week at 3,440 units sold, 159.23% more than it did the week before.

The Top 10 software sales saw one new title on its list with Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon‘s PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 editions sitting side by side at Number 1 and Number 2 with 115,393 copies and 47,949 copies sold respectively in their first three days, bringing the total sold for its PlayStation editions at 163,342 physical copies sold, which is a very promising start.

Note that the game is also released on the Xbox and Steam platforms with a possibility of its Xbox editions making their ways, particularly the Xbox Series versions of the game, on the week’s chart if all goes well.

Developed by FromSoftware Inc., Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is the 16th instalment of the Armored Core franchise and this time focuses on a kind of substance called “Coral” that led to many factions fighting over it. In the game, players take control of the role of Augmented Human C4-621 whose goal is to infiltrate Rubicon 3 and take advantage of the situation.
