Units sold for most hardware have slumped for the week as total sales for big brands such as Switch and PlayStation 5 consoles noted a 15.22% and 26.45% retreat week-over-week to close at 77,780 units and 37,411 units from 91,744 units and 50,862 units respectively. The Xbox Series and PlayStation 4 consoles were also down by 42.10% and 60.40% each, leaving only New 2DS LL as the only console to have reported a climb. Sales for the brand grew 234.48% from 29 units to 97 units for the week.

Unlike sales of hardware, video game software sales remain lively though not as great as the week before as half of the titles on the Top 10 saw weaker sales week-over-week. The mixed results for software and the reduction of demand for hardware over the past two weeks can be attributed to the end of the holiday period seen in Japan—the Bon holiday that occurred from 13th to 15th of August 2023.
