Since Famitsu did not release the sales figures for the week between April 24 and April 30 and May 1 and May 7 separately, week-to-week comparisons are not available this time around. However, comparisons will be made for the software sales charts to be released tomorrow (as of the time of writing).
In terms of hardware sales for the week, Switch consoles dominated the market by a significant margin, accounting for 67.7% of the total sales in Japan with a total of 216,525 units sold. This brings their lifetime sales to a considerable 29,030,032 units in Japan alone, and they are expected to reach the 30 million mark in a couple of weeks. PlayStation 5 took up 31.2% of the market share with 99,938 units sold and a lifetime sales total of 3,470,971 units. The Sony consoles are expected to hit 3.5 million units in sales in Japan the following week. Xbox Series did not perform as well, even with two weeks of sales, with a total of 1,324 units sold, accounting for only 0.4% of the total market share and sitting behind PlayStation 4, which saw 2,067 units sold within the two weeks, accounting for 0.6% of the total market share. The New 2DS LL sold the fewest units of all the consoles listed here.

As the software sales performance in this report occurred throughout Japan’s Golden Week, many older titles sold more copies throughout the holiday season. The top 10 list also includes two new releases. Hogwarts Legacy for PlayStation 4 sold 31,918 copies in its first three days. However, note that the PlayStation 5 edition was released back in February and sold 67,196 copies in its first three days. Moving on to number 7 on the list, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor made its debut with 16,742 copies sold in its first 10 days, which is a rather slow start for the PlayStation 5 edition. Developed by Respawn Entertainment, the game serves as the direct sequel to the 2019 release, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. You can learn more about the game through its official launch trailer below.
