Japan Top Weekly Manga Sales Ranking: September 12 – September 18, 2022

Kingdom Volume 66 is the week’s best-selling Manga volume at 292,253 copies sold in its first 3 days. However, this marks the series worst 3-day performing volume since Volume 58. When compared to other volumes with the same number of days, Volume 66 has performed 30.46% and 31.54% worse than Volumes 58 and 60 which were at above 400,000 copies sold. The gap narrowed against Volumes 59 which sold 25.57% higher, and as for others, Volumes 62 to 65 sold 15% to 16% more than Volume 66. The work by Yasuhisa Hara has been serialized since January 2006 and can be found in Shueisha’s Young Jump magazine with more information about it can be accessed here via its official web page. Its first Manga chapter can also be read for free in Japanese right here via Tonari no Young Jump. With more than 90 million copies in circulation (Source: Game Watch), the series was also adapted into TV Anime series that spanned four seasons (fourth being its latest and is currently airing at the time of writing) including a live-action movie adaptation in 2019 which starred Kento Yamazaki, Ryo Yoshizawa, Masami Nagasawa and many more.

At Number 2 is the 102nd volume of Detective Conan at 197,629 copies sold in its first 4 days which is slightly weaker than Volumes 97, 99 and 101 which 5-day sales produced a stronger average per day sales (the longer it goes, the weaker the average sales per day would be). Nevertheless, the latest volume would have sold more than the 5-day sales of Volumes 98 which were at 204,698 copies sold back in April 2020. The Manga was first serialized in January 1994 and was later adapted into a TV Anime series in January 1996 by TMS Entertainment which is still ongoing as of the time of writing. It has also been blessed with numerous films and spin-off titles ever since such as its latest “Halloween no Hanayome” film and the Zero no Tea Time Manga series which recently ended its serialization on May 25 this year. The series has more than 250 million copies in circulation (Source: The TV) with further information about it can be obtained right here on its official website. The Manga’s official page can be accessed here whereas its first three chapters can be read in Japanese for free right here on Sunday Web Every. Viz Media is publishing its official Manga volumes in English with up to Volume 85 available for purchase as of the time of writing.

Sousou no Frieren Volume 9 makes a double appearance on the week’s list with its Regular Edition charting at Number 3 at 155,290 copies sold whereas its Limited Edition that comes with two can badges can be found at Number 27 at 18,710 copies sold, both in their first 4 days. When put together, its total will be 174,000 copies with a revenue of 98,057,610 yen (≈690.23 thousand USD). Against its other volumes with the same number of days, Volume 9 is 12.22% and 7.74% lower than Volumes 6 and 7. Note that the two volumes also had their own respective Limited Edition copies and as such, Volume 9’s revenue against the two volumes are also less, particularly against Volumes 7 (thanks to a higher pricing of its Special Edition). The Manga has been in serialization since April 2020 and can be found in Shounen Sunday with more information about the work can be obtained on its official web page here. You can visit its Sunday Web Every page here to check out some of its chapters for free in Japanese, or you can purchase its volumes that have been officially released in English by Viz Media. The series has so far more than 7.2 million copies in circulation (Source: Yahoo). In addition to that, it has won several awards in 2021 such as the 14th Manga Taisho Award in March last year and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize 2021 for New Creator in April the same year. Note that the release of its latest volume also comes with one very good news, and that the series will be receiving an Anime adaptation though much about the adaptation is still unknown as of the time of writing. If you missed out on the announcement, you can watch its Volume 9 promotional video below which contains the news.

It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! In addition, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series). If Google charts are what you prefer, you can find their respective links to the charts at the bottom of the post. Many of the titles that you see below have been discussed in the TSUTAYA’s sales chart for the same week, so do have a look at it right here. Some titles that did not make it onto the Top 30 chart were also discussed in the COMIC ZIN’s chart here.

Then, at Number 4 is Yomi no Tsugai Volume 2 at 115,371 copies sold in its first 7 days, a rather splendid outcome despite being only two volumes in. The series was last seen with its 1st volume back in June this year at an already very promising start of 51,540 copies sold in its first 3 days. The Manga by Hiromu Arakawa, whom you may have heard of if you have read Fullmetal Alchemist, is the latest work by the author which began its serialization in December 2021. It can be found in Square Enix’s Shounen Gangan with more information about it can be learned here via its official web page. You can also read some of its chapters for free in Japanese right here or pre-order its 1st official volume in English that is slated for release next year in April. A week ago, Square Enix released a short video to promote the work of which you can watch below.

At Number 5 is Yubisaki to Renren Volume 7’s Regular Edition at 50,035 copies sold, and if you head down to Number 22, you will find its Special Edition at 21,401 copies, both in their first 6 days. In total, that would be 71,436 copies sold with a revenue of 47,557,900 yen (≈334.82 thousand USD). The closest comparison we have so far against its latest volume is Volume 5 which made its debut back in September last year to sell 80,146 copies in its first 7 days. Note that Volume 7, with its Special Edition, has generated more sales than Volume 5 which does not come with its own Special Edition. Yubisaki to Renren has been in serialization since July 2019 and can be found in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine. Further information about the work can be accessed via its official web page here along with its first Manga chapter in Japanese right here. You can also check out its 1st volume preview in English on Kodansha Comics here. The Manga has so far more than 2.5 million copies in circulation including digital according to its latest Limited Edition volume cover. In 2021, it was placed 17th at Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for Manga targeted at female audiences. In September 2021, Oricon released a collaboration video to promote the work of which you can watch down below.

Right below is Konjiki no Gash!! Part 2’s 1st volume at 47,228 copies sold in its first 3 days. The Manga serves as the direct sequel to the 2001 Manga series which ended its serialization in December of 2007. Part 2 continues the storyline and is also worked on by the same author, Makoto Raiku. More information about the title can be obtained on its official web page here while its 1st volume can be previewed right here in Japanese.

Skip over to Number 8 and Yofukashi no Uta Volume 13 graces you with its presence at 42,083 copies in its first 4 days, a 4.14% improvement over the 4-day sales of Volume 9 and is certainly a stronger performance against Volumes 10 to 12 amid higher average sales per day. This positive result is most likely attributable to its Anime which is about to come to an end next week, though further observation is needed to see if it is able to retain this momentum. The Manga by author Kotoyama first began in August 2019 and is serialized in Shogakukan’s Shounen Sunday with more information about it can be found here via its official web page. You can also check out some of its chapters for free in Japanese right here via Sunday Web Every  or get the official English volumes that are being published by Viz Media with up to Volume 9 available for grabs as of the time of writing while Volumes 10 and 11 can be pre-ordered, slated for releases in December this year and March the following year. The series has more than 1.8 million copies in circulation (Source: Yahoo) and is currently being adapted into a 13-episode TV Anime series by LIDENFILMS which will end its broadcast this September the 30th.

2-gatsu no Shousha: Zettai Goukaku no Kyoushitsu Volume 16 takes the 10th spot at 35,053 copies sold in its first 7 days, not as great as the 15th volume performance of 38,764 copies sold in its first 6 days. Prior to that, the series sold 29,279 copies for its 14th volume in its first 3 days. 2-gatsu no Shousha: Zettai Goukaku no Kyoushitsu has been in serialization since December 2017 in Big Comic Spirits with further information about the work can be found here on its official web page along with its first chapter in Japanese. The title also inspired a live-action drama series in 2021 that starred Yuya Yagira and Mao Inoue.

Dareka Kono Joukyou wo Setsumei shite Kudasai!: Keiyaku kara Hajimaru Wedding Volume 7 is next at Number 11 at 34,964 copies sold in its first 7 days, its second appearance on Oricon’s Top 30 after making a debut with its 6th volume back in December last year at 39,197 copies sold in its first 3 days. Dareka Kono Joukyou wo Setsumei shite Kudasai!: Keiyaku kara Hajimaru Wedding began as a Light Novel title way back in September 2013 before it was adapted into a Manga series by artist Kazura Kinosaki in November 2017. The Manga’s 1st volume can be previewed on pixiv COMIC right here, so do check it out!

Meitantei Conan: Hannin no Hanzawa-san Volume 7 is at 32,268 copies sold in its first 4 days as it secures the 12th spot. This latest performance of it is not as great as Volume 5’s 57,795 copies sold in its first 5 days. The series has already noted a decline in sales when Volume 6 was released at 45,658 copies sold in its first 7 days back in October last year. The spin-off title to the Detective Conan series is serialized in Shogakukan’s Shounen Sunday Super with its first volume preview available for reading in Japanese right here. The Manga is an adaptation of the Light Novel of the same name and has been serialized since June 2017 by artists Kansho and Hyoko in Square Enix’s Manga UP! More about the series can be learned through its official Manga web page here with some of its chapters available for free in Japanese on the same page. In January 2022, J.C.Staff adapted the work into a 12-episode TV Anime series. According to a Twitter post by Melonbooks via its official account, the cover of its latest volume indicates that the series has passed 6 million copies in circulation.

Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Idoman to su Volume 10 is another title here with a double appearance on the chart. Its Regular Edition is ranked higher at 31,519 copies sold at Number 14 while its Special Edition is at Number 28 with 18,691 copies sold, both in their first 3 days. When put together, that is a good 50,210 copies sold with a revenue of 45,720,200 yen (≈321.75 thousand USD), its best so far when compared to the 3-day sales of Volumes 8 and 9 at 30,852 copies and 31,998 copies. Note that its latest performance is also much closer to the 7-day sales of Volume 7 at 55,970 copies in its first 7 days. This could very well be its best performance since Volume 4. The Manga has been in serialization since July 2020 and can be found in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine with more information about the work can be accessed on its official website right here whereas several of its Manga chapters can be read for free in Japanese here via Magazine Pocket. If you missed its Anime project promotional video, be sure to watch it down below!

Kanojo, Okarishimasu Volume 28 is 15th on the list at 29,737 copies sold in its first 3 days. Its sales performance has not been looking good as of late with physical copies dropping below the 30,000 mark for the first time among its 3-day sales volumes since Volume 11. The latest volume has sold 41.19% less than Volume 20 which 3-day sales were at its peak of 50,566 copies, but against Volume 27, it only noted a 0.24% reduction in sales. When compared to others, Volume 28 is down by 11.08%, 21.40% and 25.05% against the 3-day sales of Volumes 11, 23 and 24. With more than 10 million copies in circulation (Source: PR Times), the Manga has been in serialization since July 2017 and can be found in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine. Some of its Manga chapters can be read for free in Japanese right here via Magazine Pocket while its 1st volume preview can be found here in English through Kodansha Comics.
