Japan Top Weekly Manga Sales Ranking: October 16 – October 22, 2023

Please note that together with its Special Edition at Number 4, Detective Conan Volume 104 has sold a total of 226,613 copies and has reached a revenue of 148,120,537 (≈USD) in its first five days. In terms of copies sold, the latest volume has performed poorly against all of its past volumes with five days of sales since Volume 97 other than the gain of 10.71% against Volume 98. Volume 104 has noted the largest drop against Volume 99 of about 21%. Nevertheless, Volume 104 will have an advantage in terms of revenue against Volume 97 to 99, Volume 101 and Volume 103.

Detective Conan was first serialized in January 1994, and later adapted into a TV Anime series in January 1996 by TMS Entertainment. As of the time of writing, the Anime series is still ongoing. The franchise has also produced numerous films and spin-off titles, including the latest film “Halloween no Hanayome,” and the “Zero no Tea Time” Manga series, which recently concluded its serialization on May 25, 2022.

Spy x Family Volume 12 has reached 889,950 copies sold in its first 19 days.

Please note that the Special Edition of Tokyo Revengers: Baji Keisuke kara no Tegami Volume 4 is nowhere to be seen on Oricon Top 30 nor Top 50 sales charts for the week. With the cutoff point being about 11,000 copies on the Top 50, the Special Edition may have very likely sold about 10,000 copies. That said, even if we were to include sales of its Special Edition, copies sold for Volume 4 are still significantly less than Volume 1 and Volume 2. The revenue may be stronger for Volume 4 against Volume 3 thanks to the Special Edition, but may not be as great as Volume 1 and Volume 2 due to their very high count of copies sold in four days and six days respectively.

The Limited Edition of the volume comes with a Drama CD and is priced at 2,200 yen (about 15 USD).

Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. Volume 31 has experienced a drop of 22.80% and 21.06% against the sales of Volume 22 and Volume 28, respectively, all in their first five days. The latest volume has also performed poorly than the 49,787 copies sold of Volume 20 in its first four days.

Despite all that, the series did notice a momentary increase in copies sold resulted by its Anime adaptation, observable in sales of Volume 24 which occurred after its Anime’s Part 1 has concluded while Volume 25 maintain the momentum against the seven-day sales of Volume 23 to record more copies sold in its first week, but unfortunately still less than Volume 24. Since then, subsequent volumes have failed to repeat the sales performances of Volume 23 to Volume 25.

Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. was adapted into a TV Anime series by studio OLM that was aired in two separate cours with the first one in October 2021 while the other in April 2022.

Mokushiroku no Yonkishi Volume 14 has recorded a decline of 34.73% and 27.23% debut-to-debut against sales of Volume 7 and Volume 10, all in their first six days. This is despite the series’ TV Anime adaptation beginning its broadcast about two weeks prior to the release of Volume 14. The latest volume has also not performed as well as the 45,627 copies and 42,110 copies sold experienced by Volume 4 and Volume 6 in their first five days and four days.

The series is being adapted a TV Anime series by studio Telecom Animation Film that began airing from October 8, 2023 and is expected to last 24 episodes..

Kakkou no Iinazuke Volume 19 has noted a considerable drop in copies sold against two of its past volumes with six days of sales as well: Volume 4 and Volume 12 by 56.49% and 50.74%. In fact, the series has struggled greatly to repeat sales prior to Volume 8 with a continuous decline in copies sold occurring from Volume 9 onwards despite the Anime airing in April 2022 that saw the release of Volume 12. The decline trend is expected to stay in the foreseeable future for the series.

The Manga was adapted into a 24-episode TV Anime series by studios SynergySP and Shin-Ei Animation that aired between April and October 2022.

Megumi no Daigo: Kyuukoku no Orange has experienced the same outcome as Mokushiroku no Yonkishi whereby the Anime adaptation that began on September 30, 2023, did not seem to have positively impacted sales of the series’ 8th volume. In fact, copies sold have declined against the likes of Volume 2 and Volume 4 which sold 31,641 copies and 31,549 copies in their first four days in June 2021 and February 2022, respectively.

Megumi no Daigo: Kyuukoku no Orange is being adapted into a TV Anime series by studio Brain’s Base that is expected to last 24 episodes with the first episode released on September 30, 2023.

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Volume 12 has reached 281,056 copies sold in its first 24 days.

Shutokou SPL last made an appearance with its 9th volume at 25,803 copies sold in its first week between February 20 and February 26, 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 23 has reached 1,408,487 copies sold within its first 104 days.

Shadows House made an appearance on Oricon Top 30 sales chart with Volume 12 at 24,613 copies sold in its first five days but failed to do the same for Volume 13, however, the volume did make it onto COMIC ZIN’s list between February 13 and February 19, 2023. Between July 17 and July 23, 2023, Volume 14 was listed at Number 25 on Oricon’s Top 30 sales chart selling 21,422 copies in its first five days.

Shadows House was also adapted into a two-season TV Anime series by studio CloverWorks. The first was aired in April 2021 while the second was aired in July 2022.
