Japan Top Weekly Manga Sales Ranking: July 25 – July 31, 2022

Kuroshitsuji Volume 32 is the best-selling Manga volume for the week between July 25 and July 31 according to Oricon with 133,060 copies sold in its first 5 days, though its sales trend is indicative of a decline in volume-to-volume debut. The series was able to push out 148,306 copies sold in just 3 days for Volume 29 which was released way back in December 2019, making its 32nd volume a 10.28% drop despite a longer period of sales. With more than 30 million copies in print (Source: Minkei), the work by Yana Toboso is serialized in Square Enix’s GFantasy magazine of which more information about the title can be found here on its official webpage. You can also read its first chapter available through the page in Japanese for free, so do check it out! In 2008, it was adapted into a TV Anime series by A-1 pictures. You can also check out a short video that was released by Square Enix to promote the latest volume down below.

Honey Lemon Soda comes in 2nd with its 20th volume at 101,343 copies sold in its first week, a great outcome still, but far below expectation despite its longer days of sales. The latest volume for instance sold 8.10% less than Volume 17’s 110,271 copies in its first 5 days. The work by Mayu Murata is serialized in Shueisha’s Ribon Magazine where a preview of the 1st volume can be read for free in Japanese right here. In 2021, it was adapted into a live-action film which starred Murakami Raul Maito and Yoshikawa Ai. According to its latest volume cover, the series has now passed 9.5 million copies in print.

Kimi ni Todoke Bangai-hen: Unmei no Hito continues to project a decline as of its latest and 3rd volume after a strong start posted by Volume 1 which sold 80,728 copies in its first 5 days. Copies sold then slipped to 64,530 copies for Volume 2 back in July 2021 in its first 5 days, and now, its latest volume with 7 days of sales could only improve 18.34% over sales of Volume 2 as it places 3rd on the list with 76,363 copies. Unmei no Hito is a direct sequel to the 2005 Manga series by author Karuho Shina, Kimi ni Todoke which was serialized in the same magazine between August 2005 and November 2017. You can read its 1st volume preview right here for free in Japanese or watch a video of it that was released to promote its 1st volume down below.

Kujonin Volume 5 is 5th this time around with copies sold at 57,611 in its first 6 days, a really good start, however, still less than the 52,312 copies sold for Volume 4 in its first 3 days back in November last year. The work by artist Keiji Asakawa is adapted from the Light Novel of the same name and is serialized in the Comp Ace magazine by KADOKAWA. More about the work can be learned via its official page here with the first Manga chapter available for reading for free in Japanese right here.

Then, Made in Abyss makes its appearance with Volume 11 at Number 5 at 49,257 copies sold in its first 3 days, not as good as the 62,584 copies sold for Volume 10 back in July 2021 in its first 4 days. The title is serialized in the Web Comic Gamma by Takeshobo with more information about it can be obtained right here through its official web page. The first chapter of the Manga is also up for free, and if you wish to check it out, you can do so here in Japanese. In July 2017, the series was adapted into a 13-episode TV Anime series, and its sequel Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou is currently being aired as of the time of writing. The series has passed 3 million copies is circulation as of July this year (Source: Eeo Media)

It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! In addition, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series). If Google charts are what you prefer, you can find their respective links to the charts at the bottom of the post. Many of the titles that you see below have been discussed in the TSUTAYA’s sales chart for the same week, so do have a look at it right here. Some titles that did not make it onto the Top 30 chart were also discussed in the COMIC ZIN’s chart here.

At Number 7, you will find Kieta Hatsukoi’s final and 9th volume at 46,453 copies sold in its first 7 days, up by 39.53% from the 33,292 copies sold for Volume 7, also in its first week back in October last year. The work by author Wataru Hinekure and artist Aruko was serialized in the Bessatsu Margaret magazine by Shueisha between June 2019 and June 2022 with more information about the work can be found here through its official web page while the first chapter of the Manga can be read here for free in Japanese. As of the time of writing, the series has more than 1.45 million copies in circulation (Source: BiBi). A short video was also released in 2019 to promote the title of which you can watch below.

Right below at Number 8 is Youjo Senki Volume 25 selling 38,616 copies in its first 6 days, an increase of 9.05% over the 6-day performance of Volume 23. Unfortunately, copies sold for its latest volume are not as great as the 5-day sales of Volume 21 and are only a small improvement over the 3-day sales of Volume 22. The series is an adaptation of the Light Novel of the same name which began serialization in 2016, worked on by artist Chika Toujo. You can get more information about the title via its official web page here and read some of its Manga chapters for free here in Japanese. In 2017, it received a 12-episode TV Anime series adaptation by studio Nut, and a sequel is planned for release on an unannounced date. As of the time of writing, the series has more than 9.5 million copies in circulation (Source: Ln-news). A short video was released by KADOKAWA in December 2020 to celebrate the release of its Manga’s 20th volume of which you can watch below.

Disney Twisted-Wonderland the Comic: Episode of Heartslabyul makes its third debut appearance with Volume 3 at Number 10 for the week at 33,273 copies sold in its first 5 days with its performance indicating a consistent downtrend. The Manga started off strong as physical copies hit 90,122 copies sold in its first 7 days back in September last year, then it nosedived to 30,962 copies sold for Volume 2, understandable since the volume went on sale for only 3 days at the time. However, its latest volume performance is only a minor improvement of 7.46% over Volume 2 despite the longer days of sales. The title is worked on by Sumire Kowono and is serialized in Square Enix’s GFantasy magazine with more information about it can be found right here via its official web page. Its first chapter is also available for reading for free in Japanese here if you would like to check it out.

Kimi to Boku. makes a double placement on the week’s list with Volume 17, its final, edging over Volume 16 as it sits two spots higher at Number 15 while the other is placed at Number 17 for the week. Volume 17 sold 25,171 copies whereas Volume 16 is at 25,006 copies, both in their first 5 days. The Manga was serialized in the Square Enix’s GFantasy magazine with more information about it can be obtained via its official web page right here. Its first chapter can also be read for free right here in Japanese. In 2011, it was adapted into a 13-episode TV Anime series by J.C.Staff and a sequel was aired the year after.

Kujou no Taizai Volume 6 can be found at Number 16 with copies sold at 25,042 in its first 3 days, a decent start and much better than the 32,262 copies sold for Volume 3 in its first 7 days. That said, its latest performance is less impactful than Volume 5 which average sales per day hovered at 8,123 copies when it sold 40,617 copies in its first 5 days back in March this year. In contrast, Volume 6 has an average sales per day of 8,347 copies (note that the average day will grow weaker the longer the days of sales it has) which means it would have sold less had it gone two days longer or more. The series is serialized in the Big Comic Spirits magazine by Shogakukan with more information about it can be found here whereas its first chapter can be read for free via the same page here in Japanese. As of its latest volume, the series is said to have passed 1.5 million copies in circulation (Source: Shogakukan).

Hige wo Soru. Soshite Joshikousei wo Hirou. Volume 8 is placed 24th on the week’s list with copies sold at 21,315 in its first 6 days, indicating a downtrend volume-to-volume. Copies sold were able to hit 31,148 for Volume 6 in its first 4 days, and the 3-day sales for Volume 7 netted it 19,696 copies. The work is adapted from the Light Novel of the same name and is serialized in the Shounen Ace magazine with more information about it can be obtained here. As for the Manga chapters, you can read them for free right here in Japanese via Comic Walker. In 2021, it received a 13-episode TV Anime series by Project No.9. According to its latest Manga cover, the series has passed 2.5 million copies in circulation including digital.

Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu Volume 11 and Lv2 kara Cheat datta Motoyuusha Kouho no Mattari Isekai Life Volume 7 were already featured for their pre-sales for the chart the week before. The two volumes sit side by side at Number 27 and 28 with copies sold at 20,148 and 20,096 respectively. Both Manga can be read via Comic Gardo in Japanese for free for some of their chapters.
