Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: September 27, 2021 ~ October 3, 2021

Sales of new release are looking really good for the week between September 27 to October 3 as Tokyo Revengers volumes are not as intimidating as they were a week ago. 3-gatsu no Lion Volume 16 tops the chart with both its Regular Edition and Limited Edition charting at Number 1 and Number 7 respectively with a total of 353,456 copies sold for the week. Sales however are not looking so good for the series. Oricon captures 5 days of sales for Volume 16, a day longer than Volume 15, two days longer than Volume 14, but the title’s 16th volume debut sales are at its lowest since Volume 10, averaging at 70,691 copies sold a day, whereas Volume 13 and Volume 14 (which had fewer days of sales) were selling around 130,000 copies above a day on average.

It is thanks to the amazing people over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! Plus, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series).

Likewise, Kuroshitsuji Volume 31 which places 2nd for the week at 196,944 copies sold experiences perhaps one of its worst performance. Despite having noted 7 days of sales, copies sold could not match Volume 30’s 209,947 copies sold which when it was charted had only 6 days of sales. Volume 29 managed to push out 148,306 copies off the shelves in just 3 days. As such, its average sales per day has fallen to its lowest since Volume 29. More comparison will be made for Week 2 as there is still a chance that sales may recover.

Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun Volume 16 is 3rd at 126,099 copies sold. Sales have recover slightly for the title seeing better average copies sold per day, up from Volume 15’s 16,623 copies to 18,014 copies. Note that Volume 16 has 7 days of sales compared to Volume 15’s 6 days. Copies sold seems lower for Volume 14, but that is due to its shorter days of sales of 3 days. The series have been performing quite well since the broadcast of its Anime, and sales may see similar outcome for subsequent volumes.

At Number 5 is the latest addition to the Square Enix’s Disney Twisted Wonderland family, Episode of Heartslabyul Volume 1 at 90,122 copies sold. A spot lower is Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 17 which its official release is slated for October the 4th. The 72,865 copies here belong to it pre-release sales, and unfortunately it is unknown at this point how many days of sales it has to accumulate such an amount. However, I opine that it should be around 1 day of sales, 2 days at most. We shall dive into the comparisons the following week when the official data for October 4 to October 10 is out.

Settling in at Number 8 and 9 are Kidou Senshi Gundam Thunderbolt Volume 18 at 47,901 copies while Kuubo Ibuki GREAT GAME Volume 5 is at 44,907 copies in their first 4 days. Note that Kidou Senshi Gundam Thunderbolt last made its appearance for Volume 15 on the Top 30 which at the time had 38,063 copies sold. As such, this is a welcoming turnout. Kuubo Ibuki GREAT GAME Volume 5 has a day of sale longer than Volume 4, yet it does perform better amassing 14,576 copies in that extra day. Without further ado, the full list is as follows:

There are a couple of interesting titles to take note of in the bottom 11 to 30. First, is Chi.: Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite Volume 5. The series was placed 7th back in July with the release of its Volume 4, which at the time had 38,553 copies sold when charted. The Manga most likely received a boost after winning 2nd at the Manga Taisho Award for 2021, and hence may be a good read for those who are looking for something new.

At Number 13 is Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta… Volume 7, a title you may be familiar with as its Anime’s 2nd season had just ended its broadcast. It brings in 35,678 copies in its first 4 days. Good news for New Game! Volume 13 which places 14th at 32,925 copies sold after missing out on the chart for its 12th volume. And then there is Isekai Izakaya “Nobu” Volume 13 at 28,665 copies, Jishou Akuyaku Reijou na Konyakusha no Kansatsu Kiroku. Volume 6 at 26,760 copies, and finally Koi to Dangan Volume 9 at 25,433 copies sold.
