Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: October 4, 2021 ~ October 10, 2021

Debut-to-debut sales for Jujutsu Kaisen seems to have fallen by quite an amount considering Volume 15 and Volume 16, which at the time of their releases charted higher copies sold in a short span of time. Volume 15 had 4 days of sales and 1,138,798 copies sold while Volume 16 had 3 days of sales and 1,165,681 copies sold. Volume 17 on its debut week has a full 7-day of sales, however could only push 1,096,464 copies out of the shelves. Including sales of its pre-release, that should put the number higher at 1,169,329, yet does not possess much of an improvement over Volume 15 and Volume 16. This may suggest that the title could have hit its maturity stage. We should observe further if Volume 18 would present a similar turnout.

It is thanks to the wonderful folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots love! Plus, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series).

Coming in hot at Number 2 is Boku no Hero Academia Volume 32 at 452,736 copies sold. Now, to have a good idea on how the title has been performing, we can compare it to the release of Volume 29 which had a full 7-day of sales when charted. The volume at the time had 429,673 copies sold, averaging at around 61,382 copies. Volume 32 on the other hand, has 64,677 copies sold on average per day, 5.09% more which demonstrates a better outcome for the series. Note that Volume 31 had already shown promising results when released, which at the time noting the titles best ever 5-day sales performance.

The chart also features several classic titles such as Number 3’s Five Star Stories Volume 16 at 130,641 copies sold, Kinnikuman Volume 76 at Number 11 with 64,467 copies while a surprising addition, Kochikame Volume 201 making an appearance at Number 15 at 50,284 copies sold. The Manga was supposedly to have ended its serialization back in 2016, but author Osamu Akimoto has penned out a number of one-off chapters since the Manga ended (Source: ANN).

At Number 4, you will find Black Clover Volume 30 at 113,418 copies sold. Note that this is still lower than copies sold made by Volume 27, which at the time like Volume 30 had 7 days of sales, however copies sold were at a high 131,755 copies. The Manga is evidently struggling to meet the performance of its past volumes, especially Volumes 22 to 26 which had 3 days of sales (Volume 23 at 2 days of sales), and when compared to newer volumes such as Volumes 28 and Volume 29, both of which had 3 days of sales at the time, copies sold have indeed weaken.

Mashle which places 5th with its 8th volume on the other hand, witnesses its best performance ever at 93,423 copies sold. Volume 4 had a full 7-day of sales like Volume 8, however at fewer copies sold. It may have been able to see a similar outcome had Volume 7 sold a few days longer when charted. The volume did impressive enough to see 77,476 copies sold in just 5 days.

Then, we have Dandadan Volume 2 at Number 6 which performs 32.61% better than Volume 1 at the time of its release. Note that Volume 1 had 5 days of sales when charted while Volume 2 has 7 days of sales. At Number 8 is Ao no Hako‘s Volume 2 with its maiden entrance onto the Top 30 sales chart at an impressive 74,740 copies sold. This is not too surprising considering the title having 350,000 copies in printed circulation as of its 2nd volume. We may see it more often on the chart from hereafter.

Owari no Seraph‘s Volume 25 is 9th with 67,417 copies, its worst since Volume 18. Note that Volume 18 had a full 7-day of sales too, but copies sold were above 100,000 copies sold at the time. Volume 24 had 3 days of sales at 50,253 copies, Volume 23 at 4 days of sales at 65,911 copies, both of which could have had higher number of copies sold if they had charted with longer days of sales. Average copies sold per day has also dipped below 10,000 copies for Volume 25, in contrast to Volume 7’s 22,237 copies, Volume 11’s 32,353 copies and Volume 18’s 16,685 copies sold.
