Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: November 29, 2021 ~ December 5, 2021

Despite the presence of well-known titles on the list, the week between November 29 to December 5 is quite lackluster with One Piece’s Volume 101 not breaching the 1 million copies sold mark. This would be the series’ weakest turnout thus far amongst those that were charted with 3 days of sales. The highest still belongs to Volume 94 which in October 2019, sold 1,182,323 copies in its first 3 days. Volumes 96, 99 and 100 all had the same number of days, but they managed to see numbers above the 1 million mark.

It is thanks to the wonderful folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! Plus, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series). You can also find the Google charts by clicking onto their respective links that I have left right down at the bottom of the post.

Kaijuu 8-gou Volume 5 which comes in 2nd at 301,943 copies is the series second weakest after Volume 3 which in June 2021 saw copies sold at 318,973 copies in its first 3 days. Sales peaked for the title with sales of Volume 4 at 332,401 copies, also in its first 3 days whereas Volume 2 had 4 days of sales at 301,425 copies sold. The low turnout for Volume 1 is understandable since the volume was in its introductory stage, but Volume 5 should have stayed much closer to sales of Volume 4, and slightly higher than sales of Volume 3. As such, sales have fallen quite below expectations.

It would seem that World Trigger too has experienced slow sales with its 24th volume. Its first 3 days netted 161,726 copies, still a great number. Nevertheless, Volume 23 did better seeing 238,549 copies in just 4 days. Had Volume 22 went on a day longer on the chart, it may see copies sold closer to Volume 22 which its 4 days of sales saw 192,413 worth of copies sold.

As for One Punch Man’s Volume 24, it places 4th at 117,584 copies sold. If compared to Volume 22, which had the same number of days of sales, copies sold have indeed dropped. The volume had 150,678 copies sold in its first 3 days. Both Volumes 21 and 23 had much longer days of sales with the latter at a full 7-day sales. It would seem that the series is facing a steady decline in sales since Volume 21.

Head over to Number 6 and you will find Dragon Ball Super Volume 17 at 69,349 copies sold, its weakest amongst those that were charted at 3 days of sales. 3-day sales peaked for Volume 14 back in December 2020 which at the time, saw 95,101 copies sold. Volume 10 had 90,557 copies within the same period in August 2019.

And then we have Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu Volume 7 at 52,177 copies sold. Though copies sold may not be as great as Volume 6, which achieved 49,486 copies in just 2 days, Volume 7 did rather well to see such a number of copies sold in just 3 days. The Anime is clearly having a positive effect on its sales. Note that Volume 5 did 52,585 copies in its first week back in October 2020.

The only series that experienced consistent sales would be Dandadan Volume 3 at 44,576 copies sold as it places 9th for the week. Volume 1 5-day sales was at 57,761 copies whereas Volume 2 saw 85,717 copies in its first week. With 3 days of sales for Volume 3, it could have produced a similar outcome to Volume 2 if it had gone a couple of days longer.

It is quite unfortunate, but Mashle’s 9th volume missed out on the Top 10 spots. Nevertheless, the series did 43,650 copies in just 3 days. As for its performance, the series is relatively stable, though Volume 6 did better at 45,603 copies in its first 3 days.

There are several notable releases on the lower 11 to 30 with Kujou no Taizai Volume 4 at 41,158 copies sold, a series worth picking up. The title last made its appearance rather recently with sales of its 3rd volume selling 32,262 copies in its first week in August 2021.

Yuukoku no Moriarty Volume 16 is a title not to be missed if you enjoyed its Anime adaptation by Production I.G. back in 2020 for the first cour and 2021 for the second cour. The volume did well to see 36,360 copies sold. Jump over to Number 16 and 17 and you will find Given Volume 7. The Limited Edition that comes with an Anime DVD places above the Regular Edition at 34,201 copies sold, while the latter is at 31,126 copies. Together, that would be 65,327 copies sold.

Uchi no Kaisha no Chiisai Senpai no Hanashi Volume 3 comes in 19th, and it is a series that recently achieved 250,000 in printed circulation. Then, Undead Unluck is at 27th with its 9th volume at 15,782 copies, and the spin-off title of Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu, Mou Hitori no Seijo which centres around Aira Misono comes in at 29h place with 15,484 copies sold.

  1. Dragon Ball Super Volume 17 no llegó a ni 70k necesita que regrese el anime para que suban sus ventas 😅, tristemente no alcanzó 75k como tú mencionabas que podría llegar.

    1. Yes… well weird is most older titles are struggling with sales as of recent. I can’t seem to find the actual cause… This includes One Piece, Spy x Family and others 😅 I was quite hopeful for DBS to at least hit is usual target, seems like it could not this time around too…

    1. Can’t say for sure. Looks like most older titles are experiencing the same. I blame the slowdown of consumer spending in Japan, which is the most likely cause or something else could be at play here. We will have to wait perhaps around 2 to 3 more volumes to really say if it is in decline or if it is stagnating. If only I could get day-to-day historical sales 😥
