Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: March 7, 2022 ~ March 13, 2022

The Manga adaptation of Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken’s 20th volume produces a strong turnout in the span of 5 days at a total of 301,680 copies sold including its Limited Edition (which places 15th on the list). Despite the number of copies breaching the 300,000 copies mark, it may have seen a better outcome for its 19th volume had it gone on a day more (it sold 290,157 copies in 4 days), and this number is less than the 322,239 copies sold Volume 17 had back in March 2021 (in 5 days). That said, Volume 20 is still an upgrade over Volume 13’s 245,001 copies sold.

Now, as for Kaijuu 8-gou Volume 6, copies sold in its first 10 days are able to maintain above 400,000 copies sold, however, this would be its third consecutive drop in sales. Note that Volumes 3 to 6 all have 10 days of sales in the graph below (including Volume 1, but Volume 2 is at 11 days of sales). Its sales performance may continue to see small drops until it grabs a foothold, or it may stabilise from now on with sales persisting at over 400,000 copies sold in its first 10 days. Judging from its current trend though, it may experience further drops in sales.

It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! In addition, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series). If Google charts are what you prefer, you can find their respective links to the charts at the bottom of the post. Many of the titles that you see below have been discussed in the TSUTAYA’s sales chart for the same week, so do have a look at it right here. Some titles that did not make it onto the Top 30 chart were also discussed in the COMIC ZIN’s chart here

Number 3 places the 13th volume of Yuru Camp△ at 102,601 copies sold in its first 4 days, a slight improvement over Volume 10’s 100,948, but it is slightly down from Volume 11’s 106,827 copies (both in their first 4 days as well). We can further expect sales to be around the same for its future volumes.

Grand Blue on the other hand, places 4th with its 18th volume at 98,392 copies. A rather weak turnout considering its past performance, and the fact that this is its sales in the first 7 days. To put into contrast, Volume 17 was able to achieve 92,431 copies sold in its first 4 days whereas Volumes 10 and 12 both had sales above 100,000 copies sold in their first 5 days and 4 days. The result of Volume 18’s low turnout could be attributed to the gap between releases. For instance, prior to 2021, the Manga could at least see around two volumes released per year. In 2021, it only released one volume. This year, it is quite possible that we will see two new volumes as well (one being Volume 18, the other would be Volume 19). Copies sold for Volume 18 however, may see an increase in sales the week after, so do keep an eye out for that.

Next, at Number 6 is Wind Breaker Volume 6 at 59,657 copies sold in its first 5 days. The Manga was previously seen with its 5th volume, not in its first 3 days as it failed to chart the week between January 3 and January 9, but on the week after at 31,095 copies sold. Prior to that, its 4th volume had a turnout of 37,991 copies in 6 days

Right after is Gokushufudou’s 9th volume at 56,813 copies sold in its first 5 days, not as impressive as Volume 8 at 68,420 copies in 4 days back in September last year. Copies sold were higher for its past volumes, mainly Volumes 4 to 7 seeing they all had days of sales of 6 and 7. Copies sold peaked for Volume 6 at 113,249 copies in its first 7 days, a modest upgrade over Volume 4’s 93,171 copies by 17.73%.

At Number 8 is Mahoutsukai no Yome Volume 17, which has been struggling in its local market as of late. The volume manages a good 54,284 copies sold in its first 4 days, but is clearly a downgrade from Volume 14’s 77,226 copies sold in its first 4 days. Before that, copies sold were strong for Volumes 12 and 13 as the two volumes had 6 days of sales. Ever since the release of Volume 14, its sales performance has been on a downtrend.

A spot below is Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! Volume 8 at 52,920 copies in its first 5 days, not its best performance to date. Note that it achieved a similar outcome for Volume 5 at 52,756 copies back in July 2020 in its first 4 days, and Volume 7 sold only slightly less than that in its first 3 days. We may see copies sold to persist perhaps somewhere around 30,000 and above the week after for its 8th volume.

Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san Volume 12 which comes in 10th for the week is at 48,533 copies sold in its first 5 days. Its sales performance does indicate a slight downtrend observable from Volume 7 onward due to shorter days of sales. Note that Volume 9 failed to chart back in July 2021 amid strong competition by Tokyo Revengers, the 35,000 copies sold is an estimation of how many copies it would have sold (the cutoff on the Top 30 was 40,518 copies sold at the time). In addition, copies sold for Volumes 6 to 11 were all in their first 3 days, hence the slip in average sales for Volume 12 is actually closer to the performance produced by Volume 4 in its first 7 days back in March 2020.
