Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: July 12, 2021 ~ July 18, 2021

Kingdom is a strong contender as ever as it sees its latest Volume 62 taking the top spot for the week between July 12 to July 18. However, its 349,862 copies sold is not as impressive as past volumes, in particular Volume 55 which recorded the highest debut sales thus far among its latest eight volumes. Do note that Volume 61 sales took into account its presales and hence why the number of copies was very low. We did see a rebound in number of copies sold in Week 2 for the 61st volume. There is still a high chance that the 62nd volume will see improved total sales as of Week 2 the following week with a more leveled outcome to that of previous volumes, so be sure to keep a lookout for the title the week after.

It is thanks to the amazing folks over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! Plus, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series).

Although data is incomplete for Tokyo Revengers, the title has recorded a massive jump in debut sales for its 23rd volume compared to Volume 22. This is certainly record breaking sales for title since missing data for Volume 15, 17, 18 and 20 is attributable to the fact that they were not listed on Oricon Top 30 sales chart at the week of their releases. The title noted a 71.77% increase in sales debut-to-debut from Volume 22’s 62,812 copies sold in its first week to Volume 23’s 222,469 copies sold in its first week. Besides, all of the series’ volumes are accounted for yet again in the week’s chart with total sales reaching 1,308,930 copies, up 22.98% from the week before.

And at Number 3, is another record breaking sales, but this time it is for Sousou no Frieren. Ever since winning several awards in Japan, the series has been gaining a lot of traction in the local market. Volume 5 saw 115,912 copies sold in its first week, and Volume 5 marks a 34.63% improvement debut-to-debut over Volume 5 hitting closer to 200,000 copies sold which would not be surprising if it does so for Volume 6. Note that sales of its past volumes from Volume 1 to Volume 4 were not able to reach the Top 30 list when they were released. As such this is a very welcoming outcome.

Diamond no Ace Act II Volume 27 is the other new release on the Top 10 list with debut sales totaling at 55,903 copies sold. This is a better debut-to-debut sales over Volume 26 which witnessed only 52,124 copies sold (the lowest so far among its ten latest volumes) in its first week. Debut sales hit an all-time high with Volume 24 among its latest ten volumes to see copies sold at 94,498, but number of copies sold plunged from Volume 25 to Volume 26 bringing the number to below 60,000 copies. It has since not been able to breach the 70,000 copies sold mark.

  1. Could it be that Volume 62 sales are “low” because volume 62 came out in the middle of the week, thus didn’t actually have a whole week of sales but like 3 days?
