Japan Top Weekly Manga Ranking: January 3, 2022 ~ January 9, 2022

Manga sales chart between January 3 and January 9 is still witnessing strong sales by Jujutsu Kaisen volumes, but the intensity has lessened compared to the week before. Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 18 retains its Number 1 spot at 255,961 copies, bringing its lifetime sales (excluding the Limited Edition) to 1,421,958 copies sold. As for other past releases,  Tokyo Revengers Volume 25’s lifetime sales are at 869,682 copies, and Shuumatsu no Walküre Volume 13, which places 27th on the list, is at 275,388 copies.

The Top 10 list is occupied by mostly new releases that is led by the 24th volume of Dr. Stone which 6-day sales are at 131,933 copies. Copies sold have slowed down a little as since Volume 19 amid weaker sales by Volume 24 compared to Volume 22 which 5-day sales were at 135,352 copies. This is nevertheless, a lot better than most of its past volumes, particularly before Volume 18, of which sales were seemingly weaker, such as the 6-day sales for Volume 14 which were only at 93,505 copies sold.

Right after is Black Clover Volume 31 at 94,977 copies sold in its first 6 days. There are currently no direct comparisons to make with its other volumes, however, copies sold have steadily weakened. Note that Volumes 22 and 25 in particular had 3-day sales of above 80,000 copies. And its 2-day sales performance for Volume 23 was great, seeing 71,457 copies sold at the time. That said, the number of copies produced by its 31st volume is quite consistent with its previous volume, of which it made 113,418 copies sold in 7 days.

It is thanks to the amazing people over at Oricon that we get to see these charts on a weekly basis, so be sure to head over to their site here and show them lots of love! In addition, all the data you find below is accessible via Oricon right here (Manga) and here (Series). If Google charts are what you prefer, you can find their respective links to the charts at the bottom of the post.

Things are also not looking so great for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The 16th volume of the series does a commendable job of getting 73,406 copies within its first 6 days, but copies sold were much stronger for its earlier volumes. In particular Volume 11 at 83,613 copies in its first 5 days. The title witnessed a small recovery between Volume 14 and 15, where 3-day sales had a small jump of 9.94% to 50,631 copies for Volume 15. It was earlier assumed that Volume 16 would have witnessed similar respite with its sales performance, but that did not happen. There is still a chance that next the volume could see a turnaround, so do keep a lookout!

Then, at Number 6 is Ao no Hako Volume 3 which 6-day sales is a slight improvement over Volume 2’s 7-day sales of 74,740 copies. Note that the title is currently being released in English by Viz Media via Manga Plus, so be sure to check it out right here!

MF Ghost Volume 13 is 7th for the week at 59,532 copies sold in its first 4 days. The performance of its 13th volume is a direct improvement of Volume 8 which 4-day sales were at 55,486 copies, however it is 5.20% weaker than Volume 11, which 4-day sales were at 62,799 copies. Looks like the Anime announcement has yet to make an impact on its sales, perhaps we will see some boost to its future volumes. If that does not happen, we will have to wait for the broadcast of its Anime to commence to see any changes to its Manga sales performance.

Head over to Number 9 and you will find the latest volume of Kinnikuman. The 77th volume did quite well to see 59,060 copies in its first 6 days, which could be a small improvement over the 7-day sales of Volume 76 which at the time saw 64,467 copies sold. Unfortunately, its previous volumes remain relatively stronger than its latest, especially those after Volume 73. For instance, Volume 70 had 66,820 copies sold in just 5 days while Volume 71 was 58,282 copies sold in 4 days.

As for the lower 11 to 30, Mairimashita! Iruma-kun Volume 25 leads the pack at 11th place with 55,076 copies sold in just 3 days! This is a direct improvement over Volume 23 which 3-day sales were at 51,467 copies sold. Note that ever since the release of its Anime adaptation, copies sold have been very strong for the series with numbers between 60,000 to 80,000 copies sold recorded for volumes that had 6 and 7 days on the charts. Do remember that it is slated to receive a 3rd Anime season on an unannounced date.

Then at Number 13 is Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi Volume 4 at a healthy 50,819 copies sold in 6 days, however this is lower than the 5-day sales made by its 2nd volume which had 53,483 copies sold in just 5 days. Another related title of Mairimashita! Iruma-kun, Makai no Shuyaku wa Wareware da! Volume 8 can be seen at Number 16 with 42,715 copies sold in just 3 days, however this is a downgrade from Volume 6’s 50,574 copies sold within the same number of days. The series performance has gradually become weaker since Volume 5, of which previous volumes did considerably better such as Volumes 2 and 3 that saw higher copies sold in their first 6 days than Volume 7.

And as expected, Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san would be on the list. This time would be for its 11th volume at 35,266 copies sold in just 3 days, a small improvement over Volume 10’s 33,310 copies sold. Sales were still slightly better for its prior volumes, in particular Volumes 6 to 8, all of which had 3 days of sales.
